Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

New knitted dress

Oh boy. I really loved this dress (both belted and unbelted) in the shop. I loved it in the mirror, but now looking at the pictures, I'm having BIG doubts. It's a gift from my Mum and Aunt, and I really want it to work, but now I'm not even sure anymore if I can pull this off at all. Is this even remotely flattering? I almost didn't post these pictures. Deep breath... Please be brutally honest.

It's a kind of blue-grey, with a subtle cowl neck collar. I also got the matching leggings (the shop assistant and my Mum & Aunt insisted I should get them, I'm not the matchy-matchy type though). I also got black leggings, but in these pictures I can't even tell the difference anymore;-) Sorry about the bad quality again, there is something wrong with this self-timer methinks.

Are you kidding? It's KILLER. ;) I can tell the difference in the leggings and I actually kind of prefer the grey ones I think although both work fantastically. It's not matchy matchy but just monotone. Having both leggings will allow you to change up the look and I can so see this with boots too.

P.S. I always love the way you stand.

Wow, Inge, you've been busy! I agree with Patience, the dress is beautiful! It looks great both belted and not, and it's so versatile. Enjoy!
(Are those the same shoes as Angie's?)

Love the dress! I have to say it's not the most figure flattering piece on you.. but you are tall and slim so you can wear it very well!

the dress is great! i would add a nice bright belt (but not too tight!) or a long necklace.

I agree wholeheartedly with every word that Patience said. I LOVE this on you and love that you have both color leggings to change it up. I would wear that in a heartbeat. For me at 55 I would have to wear it with skinny jeans as a tunic. It is perfect and gorgeous, very figure flattering.

Thank you for the input ladies (and the compliments)!

Patience: boots, definitely! I meant to take pictures with boots too, completely forgot;-)

Marianne: yes, those are the grey Fly London pumps. Angie was right again: they are incredibly comfy and very versatile.

kingadraakon: I don't know if I'm brave enough yet to try a bright coloured belt. This is actually the first time in my life that I'm sporting a wide belt, and I still need to get used to it;-) I was wondering about necklaces too, I'm not sure what kind of necklace would be best with the cowl neck. Maybe I should focus on bracelets?

San: you would look stunning in a dress like this. And I like the sound of pairing it with skinnies.

KILLER.

I hope that convinces you :0)

No more doubts! Mama en Tante were 100% right to convince you to get this frock! I *LOVE* the dress with both sets of leggings and best without the belt. You look so graceful and elegant. Such poise. FABULOUS!

Other ways to wear it:

o Try it with a skinny belt
o Slouchy boots ? (I’m obsessed with slouchy boots at the moment)
o How about over skinnies?
o Waistcoat?
o Textured hose and boots?

So many possibilities! Now wear the heck out of that dress. Its a YLF order!

(Snap on the shoes. We are Fly London twins :0)

Inge you are giving us a real treat tonight. This dress is gorgeous on you - I hope your doubts have been vanquished. I also prefer it unebelted. or maybe with a skinnier belt? Or maybe its just me and my anti-belt paranoia - you can certainly pull it off however!!!

I am late in responding however wanted to add how lovely the dress is on you!!! Please keep and enjoy. I also prefer unbelted and would love it with boots, so glad it is getting to boot season again!!

Inge, I can't see it that well -- could I suggest that if you can, you reverse your camera's location so that the window is not behind you? (Or, if that's not possible, maybe close the drapes?) I'm getting a major silhouette effect.

And I also have those same shoes! :)

Not looking at any other posts, I LOVE it. I hope you keep it.

Posted 2 months ago

Thank you!! I think I will keep it;-) I shall wear it proudly (it sure does feel great on!)

Angie: I'm blushing now! And thank you for the outfit tips. I'll try all of them (I don't have slouchy boots or skinnies at the moment, but want to remedy that asap;-)
Which colour skinny belt would be best?

April: last night it suddenly dawned on me that it's probably not the best idea to take pics with the window behind me. What a dunce! Thanks for pointing this out too.
Aha Fly London triplets!

And yes, I am VERY excited that boots season is here again!

I am very late here, but the dress is gorgeous on you! And Angie gave some amazing ideas, so I have nothing left to suggest.

I have no idea why you had mixed feelings about this dress Inge. Your mom and aunt did a great job! It looks amazing on you.

You are rocking this dress AND those shoes are lovely. Angie has proven how versatile this dress will work out to be.

Posted 2 months ago

Oh, you are going to have SO MUCH fun with that dress! It's killer on you, and it's the kind that can take on lots of accessories and styles! KEEEEP.

(April beat me to the photography advice. More you, less glare. *g*)

Inge - I just had to add my raves about the dress even though I'm guessing you're convinced by now. It looks awesome and I bet you'd rock both the skinny and boots look with this. Love the fly london shoes.

Thank you for chiming in ladies, I really appreciate it!!! I am now actually looking forward to colder weather (it was 30°C) here today, so that I can start wearing the dress. In the meantime I'm going to think about how to accessorize;-)
