New job! Good news and Bad news

The good news is I finally got a job after 7 months of searching and waiting.
It is similar to my previous job (I was a store and district manager for a department store chain) but in a kids oriented company.

The bad news is that in the stores they wear a modified uniform. Yuck yuck yuck. I didn't want to take the job for that reason alone but they came in with a great salary offer, benefits, etc. and divorce didn't seem a good option either (yes, my husband would have killed me if I turned it down!).

So, shopping for black and khaki slacks, dark purple and red shirts. Can do a combo. Boring! But I guess I can focus my shopping on after work and day off wear.

Congratulations on the new job! Bummer about the "uniform" but just think about all the $$ you will save not buying expensive work clothes. If I were you this would totally justify a great "me" purchase like a good bag or nice piece of jewelry!

Congratulations on your new job!
Bummer about the uniform though.

The uniform situation may not be ideal but congratulatons on landing the job!! I'm in the job market and I know how much work it is to find one.

Like Jaime said, you can put energy into your non-work wardrobe!

That's rotten luck re the uniform Chris, but I'm glad you got the job. Oh well! It will make wearing civies even more special :0)

On my evening walk it occured to me that i could invest in very cool shoes! At least a purple pair of MeToo Nadias to start with . Thanks for good wishes.

Chris, congrats on the job! To second everyone else, at least this way you can save for killer accessories and fun clothes for days off.

Congrats on the job! That's always good news.

My Shopping Friend has to wear a modified uniform at her job too, so she just loads up on black pants and sweaters and white button-downs, and tons of cute black flats. She buys the easiest to wash and the most comfortable, and then concentrates on her non-work clothes for the fun shopping. I kind of envy her sometimes. :)

Congratulations on the job! Now you can really focus your shopping energy on non-work wear. Most people would probably not agree with me but I loved wearing a uniform in school. Especially as a teenager, it took the pressure off of me to figure out what to wear every day.

FYI: Just got a really cool pair of slim fitting khaki slacks at Gap that you may like for your "uniform". They are almost like skinnies and really flattering with a higher rise. They are having F&F this weekend so you can get 30% off if you are interested.

Chris,

Congratulations on your new job! I know that must be a big relief!!

I must wear a uniform to work too- and it's much like yours. I actually have come to appreciate this. I can get by with far fewer clothes which means I can invest in really high quality pieces. Also, I have an excuse to get dolled up anytime else!

I hope your new job is great!

Congrats on the new job Chris. It sounds really good!!

I'm another fan of uniforms here - I wish I had one. One less thing to worry about in the morning.

I don't mind the sound of your either : black and khaki slacks, dark purple and red shirts. Does that mean you can wear and purple/red shirts you find? That's pretty awesome actually! Are you allowed to wear vests/jackets on top too??

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

I don't have a lot of details on the dress code. The recruiter/HR manager was sort of flaky on it. I am not going to buy a lot until I find out. Already have black slacks and a bit of red but might try to find another red blouse and some white layering tanks/tees sicne I know we can wear those.

May sneak in some stores and pay closer attention to the outfits this week too.

Congratulations on your new job, Chris! I know the waiting and applying and REapplying to jobs can be frustrating.

Do you know if you can wear dresses?

Congrats Chris! It will be interesting to see what you can do within the bounds of your uniform.

Congratulations on the job Chris!

Depending on more detailed requirements of your uniform - accessories, layering etc, I think you could have a lot of fun with it. I hope that you do like purple and red.

Congrats on the new job! I'm with Jaimie, just wear cool jewelry as your personal fashion statement.

Congratulations on you new job, Chris! I think in a way, such restrictions make more room for creativity :)
I should add I am another fan of uniforms. I had to wear one at school and when I worked as a hotel receptionist in college.

Congrats on getting a job, pity about having to wear a uniform though but at least you can pick your own pieces. I have to wear a uniform for summer work (as a cleaner in a hotel) as well, none of which we can choose. Basically it is black sweatpants (yuck) and an unfitted male-cut blue tshirt (double yuck). We are supposed to wear black athletic shoes as well but I wear my green converse. No jewellery, no makeup... :-(

Ah well, it's saved me on having to buy lots of summer clothes for the non-existent Irish summer anyway.
