I received a care package from home. My dear sister, who witnessed in person my frustration with the price of quality clothing and the quality of affordable items in the US when I met with her in Boston over the summer, sent me a couple of jackets and pants.

I will divide the posts into bite-size pieces. None of these can be returned or exchanged. I am willing to pay to alter them if necessary.

I am modelling everything with a simple white t-shirt and my summer wedges. I am planning to buy a pair of black pumps.

The two items in this batch are the most problematic.

Unfortunately these are not the same fabric, so they cannot be worn as a suit, right?

The jacket seems to fit you in the shoulder well - shorten the sleeves and keep this jacket to use for skirts (it's a little shorter than the tweedy one you posted) and I think it will be fine! I wouldn't wear the jacket and pants together - if they are a different material, light will hit them differently - even if it looks the same in one kind of light, as soon as you go into another room or outside it may look different... that's my opinion at least - I know of several people who choose to wear different suit items together and not let the slight color difference bother them.

I like the pants, but they seem a little loose in the waistband area - when you go to get them hemmed, see if there's any room for adjustment there. It might be fine under a top, though - how does it feel to you?

Did your sister send these to you without any try-ons? I'm amazed you got such great things with such easy solutions to fit issues!

More great pieces! You're so lucky to have family send you clothing; how thoughtful of them!

I agree with LauraElizabeth that they're best as seperates. If their textures contrast enough you might get away with wearing them together, but I didn't notice that in the photos. Of course, I'm no expert on this so you may want to take any advice I give with a grain of salt!

I think those pants might need to be taken in at the waist; they seem pretty big on you. I like the fit of the ones in #2 better.

Wow, I didn't think these two pieces would get so positive review. Quite frankly, they were my least favorite pieces but after hearing your comments, I like them!

You all have a great eye. I personally didn't realize that the waistband was too big. I think it may look like that because my torso is a bit angled towards the front giving me a pouch belly and making the waistband pop in the front.

I am 5'4'' but usually petite proportions are usually wrong for me. I really like the idea of wearing this jacket with skirts. This one is a bit shorter than my other black jacket and I am sure would work well with skirts.

Excellent, now that pretty much everything has passed the test, I need to get a pair of pumps and have the pants hemmed accordingly.

The jacket us super cute and very flattering, just shorten the sleeves a bit. I love the wide-legged pants on you, I think you carry them of really well.

yeah, there is absolutely no way these can be worn together. they are a different color and the material is pretty different, too. The jacket has a bit of texture that I like.

LE - I have been pretty much the same size for the last 6-7 years. Also, I guess I have pretty average body type, I can always buy things off the rack with no or minimal alterations. And finally, my sister and I have very similar tastes so I am not surprised that she made excellent choices.:)
