I received a care package from home. Our families send us goodies (clothes, shoes, accessories, books ,CDs, etc) a couple of times a year. This time my dear sister, who witnessed in person my frustration with the price of quality clothing and the quality of affordable items in the US when I met with her in Boston over the summer, sent me a couple of jackets and pants and my mom got me the matching necklaces.

I will divide the posts into bite-size pieces. None of these can be returned or exchanged. I am willing to pay to alter them if necessary.

I am modeling everything with a simple white t-shirt and my summer wedges. I am planning to buy a pair of black pumps.

I really like this suit. I think it fits well all over. The pants need to be hemmed. (hems are folded in the pictures and are held in place with hair pins!;) I may also have the pockets sewn shut.

This fabric is shiny in real life but not as shiny as it looks in the pictures.

I really want this to be my power suit for interviews this fall. Quite frankly I cannot afford to buy another one now so this will have to do even if there are minor problems.
What do you think? What would you wear with this suit?
I am particularly open to suggestions on tops, but my budget is very limited, say Target, H&M, NY&Co range.

I think the suit is great! I think you can probably wear any color top with the suit. I'm not sure what the weather is like, but in the fall/summer I prefer something sleeveless. I think purple will look great with the gray suit.

I also like the suit, but I think that you should get some shoes that allow the pant to glide right over it (smooth leather or patent?) - it looks like (in the photo at least) the material of the shoes catches the hem of your pants, and it doesn't give you as sleek of a leg line as you could have. It might also be that your hem length isn't as short as it needs to be, so the extra length is 'crumpling' around the ankle area... Does that make sense? It may be okay in person, but it's the first thing I noticed in the photo. A very easy fix! I LOVE the herringbone and think the suit will be quite versatile.

Almost any blouse or top will do - perhaps a button up for something more traditional. The top you wore for the challenge day #2 would be sweet!

That really is a great suit, the gray is a lovely and will look great with any color top you choose. Personally, I think the deep plum/eggplant color that is so popular would look great, as would a dark teal. I imagine you'll easily be able to find something in your budget since your color options are nearly endless.

I can't offer any advice on the fit, etc. I much too new at this to be useful for that sort of thing. Just wanted to say that I love the outfit and think it will be great for interviewing!

Love the suit, you can pair with so many bright tops and you'll be good to go. I would get the pants hemmed but the jacket looks great as it is!

That suit looks like it was tailored for you bella Well, except for the pant length. Since it is such a pleasant neutral, so many colors would go well with it. White or purple would look fab!

I would personally wear the suit with the deep berry shades currently available, but so many colours would look fantastic.

I love the suit! I agree about getting the pockets sewn shut and the length, but otherwise it looks great. I like others suggestions of purple or deep berry shades. It's a great neutral color and I think it would work well for interviews. Good luck!

Pretty suit. Professional and pulled together. I love the jacket! The pants are whiskering a bit at the thighs but not too bad. And there is nothing you can do about it anyway! Do you feel powerful in the suit, Bella? That’s the most important thing. I can't wait to see you dress the suit up!

Thank you for all your responses. I knew I could count on you to offer suggestions. Purple is my favorite color, I can't believe I didn't think about it before. I am also thinking that a light violet might work nicely as well.

What a gorgeous suit Bella! That is so sweet of your mom and sister! I would suggest purple in all shades, as well as teal for tops, ( black and burgundy/deep red too) and some cool black patent shoes. Definitely a power suit!

You are perfect as you are Bella – no need to lose weight. I love how you FEEL in that suit. That’s what it’s all about.

Blues are a good idea too. I adore brunettes in blue.
