Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

New interview outfit options -- lots of pictures

I went shopping for interview clothes today. I couldn't afford a proper suit so I bought separates. I hope one of these options will work!

Note about the skirt you're about to see -- I didn't realize that the length is sort of weird until I looked at the pictures. I was having major sizing issues because the skirt that fit best in the waist was way too tight on my body and I couldn't move in it. So I got the bigger size, which is clearly too big on my waist, but at least I can sit in it. Is the length passable?

I also couldn't find any heels. Oh well!

Internship interview options:

1) Skirt w/ jacket closed

2) Skirt w/ jacket open

3) No jacket (the shirt has cap sleeves, I know...)

4) Same shirt but white (I'm not comfortable in white, though.)

5) Same jacket and top but with my trousers

6) Different top

I'm not *quite* sure what I want to wear to my Anthro interview yet, but is mixing these patterns odd? My boyfriend said it was too much...

Another option for Anthro, but I think the pants don't fit too well, and they're too long...

Which option is best? I hope I found *something* that will work! Or was I delusional?

The silly bow on the skirt can be removed.

I like the last option best for the interview- the ruffley patterned shirt peeking over the jacket. It's pulled together and professional, but still a little fun- and you look great in it. Could you wear that one for your Anthro interview, too? I just really like it!

Yep, I could wear that for Anthro too... without the jacket and brighter shoes maybe?

Posted 2 months ago

I would keep the jacket, and yeah maybe the fuscia shoes?

You took my breath away with the Anthro interview pictures. Polka dots and pearls are my thing so I’m sort of biased. KILLER. I say the skirt outfit. I adore the length of the skirt! So retro and elegant. And you have the height to pull it off at 5ft 10. Now pop on the leather jacket :0)

The internship photos are FABULOUS. I see several options! Will chime in again later and wait for responses to accumulate first.

I like everything you have. I cannot say what is good for the interview but I do love everything you have photographed. I think you will do well working in a clothing store because of your natural talent for style. For the interview, and also working there, I think you should have perfect fit in all of your clothing. I think you mentioned that one pair of pants don't fit properly, so don't wear those to the interview.
The only thing I have to say that is a bit negative, is that to me the skirt with the bow (cute, I like it) is begging for some kind of shoe with heel. I felt a bit let down when I scrolled to the feet and there were flats. I was saying all the way, "yes, yes, yes," then ooops needs heels. Just my silly opinion though.

Haha San... I like your lack of heel observation. :) I'm probably the only girly girl in the universe who doesn't own a pair of heels. I honestly tried really hard to find a pair at Nordies today but I had no luck! I totally understand what you mean though. There's nothing I can do about it at this point, though.

Angie! I want to know which internship option you like best. :) My interview is early in the morning so I don't have much time! :)

Wow, so many great looks! My favorite are your two pants outfits- especially the ruffly blouse peeking out of the jacket. You look so, so pretty and professional. Let us know how the interviews go!!

Sure, Marianna. I like these best for the internship interview:

But you've got to wear the skirt for the Anthro interview!

Marianna, my personal favorites are #2 or #6 best for the internship interview, and love your banded polka-dot top! I wonder if it would look better if it was pulled up a little higher towards the waist when you are wearing it with the skirt - I like how it blouses out at the height you're wearing it with pants.

Lots of luck for your interview tomorrow!

Thanks for the input!

Okay, so looks like I'm wearing #6 for the internship interview. I'll put on some nice jewelry too since it is at a jewelry company.

For the Anthro interview I'll probably wear the skirt. Do the two patterns look okay mixed like that?

Yes! They absolutely work. Good luck for tomorrow!

I'm a little late chiming in but just wanted to say that #6 was my favorite too and I hope it went well! Good luck and report back on how it went!

I agree with Angie's picks. You look SO polished and confident! Best of luck in your interview!

#1 and 6 were my favorites. Good luck with the interviews!

Good luck Marianna! You look amazing in all outfits but #6 is my favourite too :-) And you rock that skirt, really you do. Keep us posted!

I'm late but wonderful pick for the jewelry interview. For Anthro, I *adore* the skirt and polka dot blouse!! And with those pink shoes, very anthro to me...

YES, it works... tell your boyfriend we said so. :-)

Sending positive vibes your way....

P.s. I love your hair, did I mention that before?

Marianna, I'm late here but you already got great advice.

I just have to tell you that I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the polka dotted, ruffled, banded top. It looks great on you, especially with jeans. I want to steal it immediately, it is amazing. I really hope you are willing to share where you got it because I. LOVE. IT.

Haha Medusa, fortunately for you won't be able to get the top because it's from Forever 21's plus size line, Faith 21. It was my first time checking out the line and I was actually pleasantly surprised with the selection. The quality is crap, but I don't think it looks cheap on. Both the patterned blouse that I wore for my interview and the polka dot blouse are from Faith 21, as well as the pants I'm wearing with the polka dot blouse. I also got a pair of charcoal skinnies for $15. I guess at my age and salary Faith 21 isn't such a bad option.

Oh, too bad for me. Well I'm happy for you that you got such a great top!

Thanks Medusa!
