New coat option-but am I 12 years old? ETA see InStyle!

For some reason LOFT is doing a siren-call even though their quality is spotty and casual. I think it is because I can try things on. And then there's that color thing I have.

Anyway, I tried this coat which is definitely my style--collar and fit--and a style that I love year after year.
And the color is burgundy and ? I think ink blue unless is actually black --"leopard print" and in a fabric that is maybe what I used to call "pile" though it's a short nap, not real furry.

I think it is very fun, clearly a novelty coat, so, not your JC or Burberry investment coat. Here I have color and style but not a classic wool, for example. It would go with lots in my wardrobe, but best with solids and subtle tweeds, not with real prints (that's more of an issue for a few skirts, as most of my fall-winter skirts are more solid).

Shown 1 and 2 in the smaller size, and 3 is size up. The smaller size will layer over thin to medium sweaters, and does zip. The larger size is more like a roomier coat. I think for a novelty fabric like this I prefer wearing it in the trimmer fit, not exactly a long blazer but with more that vibe than how I would wear a classic heavy winter overcoat.

I cannot find this online to do a Find and did not think to take a closeup of the fabric.

Interested in any opinions--fun (and wearable ), vs. it might pill or fuzz due to fabric; I'm not very hard on my coats, but it IS nappy.

And, does burgundy leopard pile look like something you would have asked your parents to get you for Christmas when you were 12 years old?

I wish I could see the Find because I can't make out the details but I love the fit of the first one on you!! Looks great. And I am also really curious about burgundy leopard -- wow -- sounds fun!

From what I can see in the photos the smaller size and color are great, and you've said you need a lighter-weight coat for in/out of car errand days.

I think this will add some fun and drama to your classic looks.

FWIW, I once bought an inexpensive medium plum faux-persian lamb coat to wear to a winter wedding instead of my only other (rain)coat. Kept it for dressier evening wear, then just started throwing it on over work or casual wear. PEOPLE LOVED THAT COAT, ha. So if you buy, prepare yourself for strangers' attention.

In this store, I saw several items that I cannot find online. Looked of course under what I thought was item type but also their search function isn't very sharp--it seems to require the name of the item. As in, the find below doesn't come up under "plaid shirtdress" but "Mixprint shirtdress" .

Definitely the smaller size. Looks great! I think people tend to err on the side of too conservative when it comes to outerwear...why not have some fun with it? Especially on a dreary day...that coat will just brighten your mood.

I blew up the pics and then adjusted the brightness so I could see the pattern. I don't think it is juvenile at all. I find it quit interesting and think it looks very nice.

I like the cut of the smaller size on you a lot. That said, I am periodically tempted by faux leopard fur coats/vests. I like how they look in inspiration pictures. But then I put the thing on and I feel faintly like a stuffed animal and so I balk.

UmmLila, I get that totally. I think this is more subtle due to low-contrast dark colors, but then again, it's definitely not natural.

I've made the childhood connection as part of my approach to humor in fashion and the endless circle of styles from cradle to grave and over decades, in that, everything connects to something less precious somehow, so if someone were to say, I had a coat like that in junior high! I would not be offended, I would be able to relate !

I love it. I have a few statement coats, and really, it is surprising how often I reach for them over black or navy! I think part of it is that we often have darker, more neutral clothes in winter, so a punchy coat is fun and - in my experience - very wearable. And not every purchase has to be a serious investment (though I like those too!)
The fit on the first one is super.

I think it's gorgeous and much more sophisticated than your title led me to expect. Rabbit bought a coat last year at Loft that seems like it might be very much like this one, but in a light blue and charcoal colorway. I remember it, because I really like it on her. (And I saw her in it in person, when she tried it on in Seattle.)

Oh, and I would go with the smaller size. The silhouette looks fabulous on you, even though I can't make out the colors.

I like it! I think it's fun and playful in a Boden-esque sense, rather than a twelve-year-old sense.

Here are attempts at capturing the print and color, but color is hard to get a true read on because the fabric reflects direct light. IRL it looks much more moody- burgundy.

I adored what looks like the same coat in another colorway on Rabbit last Winter. She looked incredibly chic in it. Playful, in a good (not pre-teen) way, but chic. I love the length and fit of the smaller size on you. And burgundy--why not?

Just curious, Unfrumped--does it feel warm enough for real Winter weather, or more of an Autumn/Spring weight?

Hmm, what is the temp rating?! It's thick synthetic low pile material and lined.
It's warmer than a jacket or blazer, or a heavy cardigan, but not for our coldest days, partly because if likely wear heavier clothing and a roomier coat iver all that. We get some days below freezing and even a few low teens. But milder chilly days are interspersed for several months. It'll be a house- to-car-to- work coat, and going out- I like the idea of trying it as a theater outfit coat, for instance.

One issue is that if destabilizes my scarf capsule, maybe. Will have to rummage through and see what solids I have.
