Outfits Ensembles Trends Advice

Need some adjectives ladies!

MNsara wrote in one of my threads that my outfits were "naturally you." I'm still trying to figure out in my mind what "my style" is. So just as taking pics of our outfits helps us to see how the outfit really comes across to others...I thought I'd ask you all if you would please give me adjectives or themes that pop into your head when you think of my style.

These come to mind:
creative, inventive (using pieces in new ways, mixing patterns, etc.)

resourceful (using elastic bands or knotted tops, etc. to get the look and proportion you are after)

effortless (although lots of thought has probably gone into these outfits, they don't look like you are trying too hard)

Lively- I get the impression from your pictures you are a lively bubbly person
Colourful- There is always a good splash of colour in your outfits
Daring- You seem to give any look a go x

What a great ideia you had!

it's not an adjective, but what I noticed more was the great use of the accessories, the pieces are very simple, comfy, but the way yiu use the accessories makes all the difference!

I also think casual-elegance when I look at your photos. It is very hard to describe something when it is unique.......

WOW! I am so grateful for everyone's help with this!

The adjectives that coincided with my vision of how I dress were:
quirky
playful/fun
resourceful/inventive - I'm a cheapskate!
relaxed
casual chic
youthful - in the sense that I don't have the sophistication element to my clothes.

The adjectives that surprised me were:

Ladylike - Again this means sophistication to me. I picture Ann Taylor clothing: fitted and sleek silhouettes.

Eclectic - This means artistic to me: loose, flowy. graphic pieces.

Daring/Bold - I suppose if you were thinking color then yes I like my color mixes. I view daring and bold as more sexy bombshell looks.

Thoughtful - Not really sure how you can express that adjective in your clothing. Rae, can you explain what you meant?

Energetic - I suppose I picture more hiking/athletic looks with that adjective.

Urban - I'm thinking of leather and converse sneakers with that adjective, Melllllls.

Bohemian - I'm thinking of maxi dresses and fringe with that one, Kristine.

Casual Elegance - Is that the same as casual chic? Elegance seems a step or two above chic and I wouldn't put myself that high. That's Taylor's category! : )

Well-loved - How can you tell that from someone's clothing, Jenny? Yes, I do feel well-loved by my husband, kids and close friends.

Well-off - Hmmm...I don't dress in designer anything so I was stumped by that adjective as well, Jenny.

Organized - Well I hardly feel that at all! So that was funny to me.

What I've learned about my style from this little exercise is summed up with these three insightful observations:

KristenKP - Layered/complex

Taylor - To me you dress up casual effortlessly and you dress down elegant enough to be comfortable.

Rute - The pieces are very simple, comfy, but the way you use the accessories makes all the difference!

Yep, layered, comfy, casual pieces fancied up with accessories sounds like me!! I like how I can now take that image and make that work across many different styles of clothing.

Aj, you're comments are interesting....you are definitely elegant in my opinion. Elegance has nothing to do with dressed up ( Taylor totally has it down in spades ! But it is different from yours. ) There really is an ease and grace to you that is not quantifiable.

I once worked with an Italian female scientist, she would wear jeans and sneakers in the lab but she always had on a scarf, a big men's watch, and great earrings. Something about her was so elegant : nothing fussy just elegant. That is really hard to do with casual clothes, but you pull it off beautifully.

I wondered if you'd be stumped my my adjectives AJ!

I have to explain something...people-watching has been a hobby of mine for more than 20 years. I was a broke SAHM in a one-car family when my babies were babies. We had to find free things to do to keep from going stir crazy. Sometimes we would go to the park, but when they were still pram-sized, what could I do but sit on the bench and watch people go by? When it was hot we would go to the indoor shopping mall and I'd sit on a bench and watch people go by. To amuse myself I'd make up stories in my head about the lives of the people I saw. Over many years, I developed a sort of quick-sketch profile method. Naturally, I don't know whether I'm correct most of the time but I still do it.

So ... How can I tell that you're well-loved? I don't know that for sure, but you have the look of someone who is cared for and who cares for herself. I don't know exactly how to explain that, but there it is.

The well-off is not about how much your clothes cost. In your pictures I see a grace and an ease that I associate with people who are not wondering where their next meal is coming from. This is another one that's hard for me to explain without going into an awful lot of detail. You look like someone who is closer to the top of Maslow's hierarchy than the bottom. I think that's something that often shows in the way a person carries and presents themselves.

As for organized - that's easy! You have children and a husband and a household to take care of and you never look disheveled. That says to me, "organized!"

How interesting AJ, I view ladylike as dressing modestly and appropriate for the occasion rather than conservative.

Edit: I have also become acutely aware that I have used the word modest three times in posts this week. How bizarre?

I'm really pressed for time today but I *had* to put your heart at rest, AJ. Your understanding of the adjective "ladylike" is polar opposite to mine. I would describe Vera Wang, Gwen Stefani and Cate Blanchette as having ladylike styles - along with being super edgy, funky, trendy, daring and avant garde.

"Ladylike" means that you exude grace and you do that in your creative and playful ensembles without even thinking about it. It's not a bad thing! In my opinion it's a fabulous thing. I hope that people describe my own style as ladylike too :0)
