Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Need input on jackets, Round 1

Before I put them to the back of the closet for warmer weather, I would like input on a bunch of jackets. I will do them in smaller chunks to avoid "closet cleanout overwhelm." (Link to full album is at the end.)

The questions are:
1. Keep or not
2. Would you suggest any alterations

1. Lands End charcoal wool jacket. This one has already been taken in at the waist, but it's still a bit loose in that area and I am considering having it redone.

2. This one is a deep orange plaid with a little peplum in the back. It has a sweet hot pink lining that I love. Should I have the waist taken in a bit?

3. This one is a moto jacket in a charcoal knit. I already had this one taken in as well, but what do you think of the fit? Somehow I never seem to wear it and I'm wondering if something is off about the way it hangs.

Thanks!

Bumping -- I really do need help deciding whether to alter any of these.

#1 and 3 need altering (3 might be too big altogether). #2 looks great -- I love that jacket and almost got it myself!

the only one that really popped to me was #2. #1 is possibly worth altering and keeping, depending on how much use you get out of a basic black blazer. #3 just looks too big and shapeless on you. hope that helps!

Yes, I would wear a classic charcoal jacket such as #1 a fair amount (if it fit properly), because I wear it to work and also as outerwear to fall events such as my son's soccer games, with jeans and wellies. I did have the waist taken in but I think my tailor underestimated how fitted I wanted it to be. Same with #3 -- maybe it's time to change tailors...

Interesting that you all like #2 -- that was a reach for me, but it was an incredible bargain so I decided to take the risk. It is also a bit wide in the waist and should probably be nipped in a little. Are the sleeves an okay length on that one? I never know how long sleeves should be.

Hi April! Love your jeans. They are KILLER.

I like jacket #2. It fits well. Very traditional. Want to funk up the look a bit if you decide to keep it. I say pass on the others. Jackets are very expensive to alter and you’ll get perfectly fitting jackets for a song in this recession. Is that a deal?

So funny about the jeans, Angie -- those are AT Lindsay trouser jeans that had literally just arrived in the mail before taking the photos. I tried them on and while wearing them, decided to work my way through the jackets. I guess I should keep the jeans. :)

Yes, I would definitely funk up the plaid jacket. What about nipping in the waist a bit -- would that help the funk quotient?

April - I agree with the comments already posted. How about a belt with jacket #2 - over it to help funk it up a bit?
