I'm not sure if this should be Off Topic or not, so, Angie or Inge, feel free to move this thread if so.

Anyway, I desperately need help with the state of my nails. They often tend to be off form in the Winter and even the rest of the year the condition can be a bit grotty, but this year is particularly bad. I've Googled for help and got so many conflicting answers, that I thought I would ask you wise ladies. Ok, first up I have vertical ridges and apparently that is a lot to do with aging...fair enough. I also have flaking along the tops of the ridges, but then I also have jagged shaped flaking occurring out of the blue, going across my nails. My nails aren't particularly thin, or brittle, but they do break off when the flaking compromises the structure. I do have dry hands and nails and I have been putting a nail oil on at night (sometimes during the day too) and I always wear rubber glove to clean or wash. Of course just washing hands after calls of nature and after cleaning a kitty litter tray can't be avoided.

I eat quite healthily and I eat oily fish too. Is it just dryness? Vitamin D deficiency? Iron? Calcium?

I have also kept off nail polish the last fortnight, but I was never one to wear it all the time until the last 8 weeks or so... but I have had this problem before when not wearing polish. Help!

For your perusal and delectation I have include two photos of the offending objects. The one of my thumb is blurred but it shows a horizontal flaked area that appeared overnight. Blanked one photo so as to not have it appear on the Wall
