If I had a graphic black and white Duran Duran tee, I'd have worn that instead. So I chose my old Retro cropped lace blouse which creates a pattern on my skin when I shopped my closet for my outfit this morning. Similar pattern mixed effect. Paired it with my floral high waisted pants.

I'll add my cropped black tuxedo blazer, gold ankle stap flats and clutch to finish off the look - just before I edit and review a closet for a client today.

Very creative to use your lace shirt which creates patterns in lieu of a graphic tee to create the outfit!

I'm proud to report I've worn something similar this week...no, wait, I've got all the details wrong so the result was not stylish after all
Plain black sweatshirt, plain black jacket (the one you've seen in London), black bag, black patent BOOTS (yeah, so Summery) - I know so much black, you want to cry - and "prince-de-Galles" cropped checkered pants. Absolutely no need for sunglasses.

Love this. Never would have thought of lace as the pattern piece but it works perfectly. You inspired me to wear one of my favourite lace pieces...backwards so that the lace would show in the front! Thanks for the inspiration

I really like the idea of lace as the pattern piece on top. For myself, I'm not always a fan of a graphic print tee with words on top. I own three, two of them are college logo tees, and one is my JCrew linen Save the Bees Tee. I suppose a college logo tee could work with this formula. I finally found a use for my Michigan shirt besides football Saturday's, and visits to Ann Arbor.

Skylurker, Duran Duran is the ONLY reason I would wear a T-shirt (I could be swayed if there was a graphic Yorkie on it too). I like the sound of those checked pants.

Lisap, I can't post outfit pics on the forum. But lace is a GREAT way to wear a tonal and dressy pattern. I love lace.

Ummlila, I know about that concert - thanks. But it's outside in our dicey Sept weather, and Duran Duran is only one of the groups playing.

I ended up leaving off the jacket ALL day because it was too hot to wear it - it's 32 degrees here. And I liked that version a lot better because it was less black with my skin peeking through the lace.

Wow, what a fab use of the joie elvia lace top!! I am so going to lemming this. Sub out gap always skinny camo skimmers, helmet lang cropped smoking tuxedo jacket and cut out booties or maybe chunky mules to swap it up. Just crushing on the outfit!! Hope you enjoyed wearing yours!!

Just coming from Donna's thread where I commented how much I liked that she took the formula and adapted it to the content of her wardrobe, and the same thing applies here. I especially like seeing your tweak in the formula in the form of using the lace top (the one I love seeing in action very much, btw, I am always amazed by the new ways you find to wear it). At first it seemed unexpected, but then perfectly logical - in the context of your style and the content of your wardrobe. The message of these ensembles being the starting points or frameworks to work with could not be clearer. Funnily, I thought I'd sit back and enjoy the renditions of the other fabbers, but now I'm wondering if I could actually come up with something myself.

Looks like a great ensemble! I really enjoy it when " substitutions" are used, too.
Have not found printed that love me yet-- and also they woukd tend not to get as much use- but have patterned skirts. Usually use the chambray shirt or sweatshirt type top trick to dress down for outside of work and get more wear.
The logo T would work great if found the right ones, I think, especially with a
jacket. Proportions of prints and logo might be a little trickier but doable.
