My trinas broke

And I'd only just got comfy enough to wear them without bandaids. I babied them too, switching to other shoes for my commute. They've only had about a month of wear . Hopefully the cobbler can fix this.

Oh, no. :/ I recall a pair of my flip flops coming apart in a similar way years ago. The cobbler was able to glue it back into the little slot and it was good as new.

Sad I did not baby my Trinas, and they held up well last summer. Did you buy them in the last 6 months? If so, I would send an email to SE noting that their product was defective and you would like a replacement. The worst they can say is no (or not respond). I mean, these are $100 sandals, they should at least last a season.

Lynn, unfortunately I bought them longer ago than that - when they were on sale last summer in the northern hemisphere. I was saving them up for the Australian summer.

Anne did you order from overseas of get them here? I noted that David Jones carried them here. I think a cobbler should be able to fix these:)

Same thing happened to mine, but it happened because I tripped and twisted my ankle in them. My cobbler did fix them but it wasn't going to last. I bought another pair last year on end-of-season clearance.

OK ! I have sent them an email - Nothing ventured, nothing gained. (I have never done anything like that in my life before).
I forgot for the second day to bring the sandal in to the cobbler - do you think I should hold off until SE reply?

So SE has got back to me and said I need to take it up with the retailer (who was Amazon) and that I'd need to physically return them.
Yes Deb, if I buy SE again I'll just go to David Jones!

I think you were right to contact SE and hold off a few days on taking them in for repairs. I don't think inflation has reached the point yet, where we should all just lightly accept that a new-ish pair of $100+ shoes just randomly broke, even if you bought and store them months ago.

Best case scenario, you follow up with the retailer, and are able to return or exchange them, and worst case scenario, you take them to a cobbler and get to wear the sandals you love

Next installment of the Saga.

I contacted Amazon through their customer service box online, and wrote to them about the shoes breaking.

They have sent me an automated reply saying they have refunded my purchase price and shipping and "Reason for refund: Item not received".

Of course that was NOT the reason! Not sure what to do now - Just take the money, keep the sandals and use some of it to pay the cobbler? Or follow it up further?

Hmmm. I had a pair of boots I bought through Amazon, and the leather covering on the heels got really faded in the wet weather, despite the fact that the boots were supposed to be weatherproof (they were Aquatalias). I contacted Amazon, and they told me I could either return the item for a full refund or that they would credit me 30% of the purchase price to account for the defect. I took the 30% refund and then took the boots to a cobbler, who was able to restore the leather.

I think that I would contact Amazon again and let them know that the reason they cited is wrong, just in case they made an error. At least that way you will know that you were honest. And who knows, maybe Amazon will say to keep the shoes anyway.

I have found Amazon to be really good to work with for returns and defective items.

Thanks Gigi - that's really helpful.

Of course I do want to be honest, and was only thinking that they somehow may not have had a "category" for defective items, and that they put it into a different category instead as the next best alternative. That was a pretty naive view for such a large retailer.
Your experience shows me that they probably did make an error and I'll try to contact them.

Good luck! I hope my response above didn't sound like I thought you were trying to be dishonest; I am sure you were not. I just know that for myself, if I don't follow up on these things, I feel bad afterward, and I would hate for anyone else to feel the same. Peace of mind is priceless.

I think that although Amazon has been good in my experience with defective items, they also are kind of sloppy. For instance, when they refunded my credit card for the 30% off, they took it off the retail price instead of the sale price (I had bought the boots on sale). So the refund was more than it was supposed to be. I contacted them, and they charged my credit card for the difference. So they do mess up. I hope this comes out to your satisfaction.
