My Nod to the 80s Trend

Don't worry, you won't catch me running around in any neon pink leg warmers. I got some new sunglasses!

I put them on and feel like this:

Now I'm listening all these 80s songs on Youtube and feeling a little crazy dancing around doing dishes, lol. But it's your turn! I know some of you lived through the 80s as teens or adults (I was under 10, but still remember the music on car rides). Post your favorite 80s songs in this thread!

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now! :P

LOVE the sunglasses! You look so good in them.

I was 5 years old in 1989, but New Order is one of my favorite bands ever. Ooh and the Smiths. I still love Morrissey. Also Depeche Mode and The Cure. And Joy Division. OK, I think that's it from the 80's for me.

Sunglasses look FAB. Especially with your amazing new hair that I just can't get enough of even though it isn't really new anymore!

Oh wait, the songs. I love Soft Cell's Tainted Love. Like Maya, I love The Cure and New Order. And the Talking Heads, oh my god. I have to stop now, I LOVE the 80s...

Did anyone else watch I love the 80's on VH1? Those were positively addictive.

I know Antje, I kind of posted this with you in mind, in honor of your birthday. I put on "Der Kommisar" and it was in German, and it made me think of you! :D

I watched I love the 80s Maya! I love Depeche Mode! Right now I'm listening to Belinda Carlisle. I'm going to search for some Depeche Mode videos next.\

Thanks for the compliments on the glasses! I don't know why, I just kind of got it in my head that I wanted a pair of tortoise shell wayfarers. Sarah was with me, and she liked them on me. She sent me an e-mail later that night that said she was flipping through the channels and "Romancing the Stone" was on, and Michael Douglas was wearing my sunglasses, lol.

Ana, the sunglasses look great on you. I might have a similar pair from the 80's still hanging around somewhere. I agree with Maya, you hair looks wonderful!

Love the sunglasses! The 80's went by pretty much unnoticed for me because I was a mom raising baby boys then.

Thanks Eva and Joy!

I love Duran Duran and David Bowie! I have the Labyrinth soundtrack on my iPod. What a great bizarre movie.

I was a kid in the 80s and was pretty unaware of pop culture. I remember some music, not so much fashion (mainly on my Mom and older cousin).

So I've been discovering a lot of this stuff almost for the first time. I like Duran Duran, David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album, Depeche Mode, Joy Division. Queen, hehee!

Ana, you look great! I second Maya, they look great with your short hair.

I was so behind the times I wore this style in the 90s. I shudder when I think about it.

haha, i was born in the mid-80s, but you wouldn't know it from my list of favorite bands - rock in the 80s was the best! hair bands ahoy! anyway, the glasses look fabulous on you - my favorite sunnies are also a pair of wayfarers that i adore :)

The sunglasses look great! I was in high school and college in the 80s so that my music. Love it all -- good and bad.

We used to like dancing to "la Bamba" at the high school socials.

And I like the soundtrack to Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion so much that I bought it (I have bought less than 10 CDs in my whole life)

Ana, to quote an 80s song, "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades"!

Like aj, I was in high school, college, and starting life out in the real world in the 80s, and we especially liked Robyn Hitchcock, Roxy Music, Cure, Lemonheads, The Smiths, Thompson Twins, BoDeans - and The Replacements were huge for us because I went to college near Minneapolis.

Rock on, Ana.

Nice sunglasses! Definitely better than pink leg warmers. :)

I liked horrible hair band music in the 80s like Bon Jovi and at school dances they would play Whitesnake and Poison. I also had a few cassette tapes by Madonna. :)

Love the shades! ;)

In the 80's I was a big fan of pop music like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. It wasn't till the early 90's when I was in high school that I became a super huge fan of The Cure, The Smiths, the Cocteau Twins, OMD and Erasure. It's hard to pick a favorite song but I think I'll go with "If You Leave."

Awesome shades!

My favorites are "Eye of the Tiger" and "The Final Countdown" by Europe. I still listen to them when I'm exercising!:)

I was having my babies in the early to mid eighties. I was an Anita Baker fan. I was only in my 20's then so I was fully entrenched in the 80's clothes.....Spiral perms and shoulder pads.Madonna and Simply Red were big as well...Ahh the golden Oldies Still own my Ray Bans.

Love the shades, Ana. They remind me of Tom Cruise in Risky Business!

Anyone else remember the sunglasses that had little leather side flaps--kind of like a mountaineering sunglass--with the rounded ear pieces? I had a pair in every color!

I graduated from HS in 1986--but I was more of a rocker--Aerosmith, Pat Benatar, the Stones, Springsteen, Kinks. I was and still am into Squeeze and have introduced them to my kids. As far as 80's era music--Eurythmics, Bowie, and Violent Femmes. I'd have to say that "Blister in the Sun" is the most nostaligic song that brings back the 80's for me.

Nicole, you reminded me to include the Rolling Stones on the list. Only I prefer their 1970s albums.

Ugh. I am the lone dissenter. I graduated college in 1979 and I hate that whole period. Ripped off-the-shoulder sweatshirts, inside out seams, neon belts, Madonna wearing her underwear on top of her clothes - please! Make it stop!

But that's just me - I didn't have a clue about fashion - and there was no internet to help you figure it out back then. I have to close my eyes and repeat my mantra "I know how to do smart casual ... I know how to do smart casual ... I know how to do smart casual." It's the only thing that gets me past the horrors of the past. ;)
