My First Big Night Out With My New Haircut

Well, tonight, was my first big night out with my new haircut. Just a warning on the pictures: I am not a very photogenic person. I do not photograph well, I get nervous, jittery etc. Also, I am still working on "playing" with my new haircut - getting used to it, styling it etc. I added more blonde to it, and I am still not sure if I am going to keep it - I may go back to letting it grow out - I am not sure yet.

Any comments, opinions etc. would be greatly appreciated and helpful.

p.s. Have you guys noticed that you are treated differently if you have short hair, particulary by men? Gay, or something of the like? Seeing, as I am not gay by any means, I notice that I do not get a lot of attention from men with my shorter hair, or if I am then I am just not noticing it. But, then again I tend to not get "hit on" so to speak a lot, and if I do those men are my dad's age - yuck. Anway, I am ranting, sorry, but you guys are great to just get feedback from and so supportive of things. I have had my hair short for about fours years now, on and off, different lengths and styles, and have and have not noticed this.

I am a stylist so I can put in my 2 cents.

You look Fab with that cut. you are a beautiful woman so ,I think you are just getting used to playing with it.

It does take a certain amount of confidence and an edgier style to pull it all *together*.. I think you have both!! bigger earrings, more assecories in general, more eyes and lip color. It is a funky style.. When my hair is super short I try to go ultra girlie in my overall look.

Funk it up a little..don't be shy about it, some of the most stylish European models have ultra short hair, you can pull this look off EASY!!

As far as men and short hair.., Men love a woman who is confident and comfortable with who she is!!

I have never had a problem getting a mans attention w/short hair, in fact my husband prefers it!

I have had short, short hair most of my life (you’ve seen the pics of my current crop). This is a completely personal thing, but I am at my most confident with super short hair and I think that’s because I feel my most feminine, modern and elegant that way. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. I hope that makes sense.

LOVE the cut, and color on you!

I prefer short hair, on me, and on other women! Rockin' a short 'do takes guts.

I echo Angie -- I let my hair grow a few years ago, and then went in for a trim and got it all chopped off instead! I remember feeling relieved and back to my fresh, funky self!

I just started playing with the color (was a brunette, now it's bergundy with patches of blonde and a really funky Euro cut) and I finally feel I'm matching outside and in. I'm considering going platinum with a pixie for summer!

As for men, I think Taylor's right...if you feel good about yourself, it shows. And if your haircut makes you feel good, then it will be all over your face!

That is a FABULOUS cut and color on you! Have fun with it, stand tall and proud and be the funky, sassy person you are, and trust me, the men will come flocking.

And frankly, any man who turns away from you because you have short hair is a fool of the highest order, and it's better you learn that at first glance than wasting time dating them and finding it out then. LOL!

Kathleen, I was sort of a tomboy growing up - would hang out with my older brother and all his friends. I learned A LOT about how men think. And one thing I learned is this: a lot of men will not approach the most attractive woman in the room, because they are intimidated. So you should be flattered!

They will approach you, however, if you make eye contact with them and give them reason to think you are approachable, like smiling.

How fun to see your face Kathleen! I absolutely love your new haircut, it accentuates your lovely features and beautiful pale skin (marvellous dress too, by the way).

And I agree with what the other ladies have said (good point Kristen), please don't worry. Those guys are deluded;-) And trust me, there are plenty of men who find a short do very attractive.

(I've been sporting a short haircut for quite a while now, and I've only had one really negative experience: my first boss kept telling me at every opportunity that I should really let my hair grow longer and that short hair was a very masculine look. It was my first job after graduating, I was still quite young and he made me feel very insecure about myself. Not pleasant!)

As for the guys and short hair thing- there are plenty of guys out there who love short hair on girls and those who don't. Unfortunately you may have bumped into those who don't like short hair. (boo hiss!) Short hair, especially yours, is feminine and funky, and you need confidence to pull it off, which you seem to have in bundles!

Guys will like you for your confidence and personality rather than hair length and if they're so shallow that it's long hair or nothing with them, they're not worth it. Ever since I cut off my hair earlier this year, I have had more people hitting on me because I look more confident. Actually I received a comment from a guy who said that he liked my short hair because every other girl was so conforming with their long hair. As for people thinking you're a lesbian, I have received comments to that end from a couple of people in both a joking and rude manner, and I just ignore them.

You have just what it takes to sport this short do. You have great bone structure and fab creamy skin. I think you did a great job fixing it. I love how it sticks up in back, very funky.
You say you are not photogenic but I don't see it that way at all. These are super cute pictures of you. The one where you are standing with your hands on your legs in your black dress is so precious. I have always been a shy person and it is no fun, but looking back on life from the age of 54 I think some amount of vulnerability is really sweet. What guy doesn't like a sweet gal?
