Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Microcheck question

Can I wear CM microchecks to an interview? The weather is fairly hot and I don't have any interview-appropriate summer clothes and I do prefer pants for this occasion. It's an IT position, but at a fairly laid-back place, so I don't need to look too nerdy or conservative. What can I pair them up with to look professional? White shirt, black jacket?
Thanks in advance!

I bought mine with the intention of wearing them to an interview. I know I can get away with a lot in my field, but I think they should be fine for almost anyone as long as it's not a very conservative suit type of interview.

I have it paired with a white jacket and plum cowl neck top. I just personally like to have a jacket for an interview. Cardigans and other layering techinques don't have the same effect IMO. Nothing beats a the crisp, finished look of a jacket.

I think microcheck pants would definitely be okay Marianne. I agree with Maya that a jacket always looks professional, but I would also consider pairing the pants with e.g. a black button-down shirt and a sweater vest with V-neck, or a waistcoat. (depending on the colour of the waistcoat/sweater vest you could wear a brighter colour shirt underneath too).

I think microchecks would be fine. I do agree with Inge & Maya that it would be good if you could add a jacket, but I'm thinking you can be a little less structured if you'd like. I think a shirt/vest might be really cute & fairly professional. Is it a software company? If so, you would be fine with one of those looks. If you're interviewing at a bank or law office you might want to go more conservative.
