Matchy, matchy with the SO?

When going out, do you and your SO co-ordinate? anything from wearing message t-shirts to his tie picking up the colours of your outfit?

I think we color coordinate but we kind of use the same colors so that is not very difficult. To a wedding most definitely .

Both of us have blue as a favorite color, so our dressy outfits usually harmonize.
But as far as matchy, matchy all the way - nope!

We were just talking about this! Remember those magazine spreads in the early 00s, about how to do this without looking matchy-matchy?

In public, we're rarely dressed at the same level of formality, sometimes comically so. In private, our loungewear coordinates but not intentionally; it's because of the preference for same colors that Celia mentions.

Weddings, we don't attend together because does the wedding couple really need to pay for hosting (and make space in their guest list for) whichever of us is the +1? We prefer to view those invitations as polite fiction and spend time with the couple together a few months later or whenever it works out geographically.

Sometimes unintentionally we complement each other with some type of matching but we don't coordinate to do it.

in South Korea you'd see dozens if not hundreds of couples wearing matching "couple outfits", especially on the weekends. I also saw mom-and-kid matching outfits, too.

Since he often asks me to choose what he should wear, we are often coordinated simply because I am in the mood for ----whatever it is (black, cozy sweaters, tee shirt, etc)

It happens often... mostly by total accident. But we have been together for almost 30 years... so perhaps that leads to thinking alike. A bit scary.

We have a few pieces that overlap, but try not to wear them on the same days. On backpacking trips we're fairly matchy (same shirts, same sunhats, same trail runners, sometimes the same shorts or pants), but that's only because I'm in charge of gear buying, and once I find what I consider to be The Best ___, I just buy it for both of us. At least it's usually different colorways for men and women.

Aaahhhh, mrbj1111 is a prep through and through. He owns no jeans, has an unnatural love for chinos in a tightly curated (let's go with that) set of colors in navy, dark tan, light tan and olive if he feels wild and a slightly wider color palette of button downs that includes plaids, reds and rusts. I could not match him if I changed race and religion.

So I view my role as an accessory for him if it's his or a joint event. I'm his bling. If it's my event, he's my grounding element. Works.

We don't usually wear the same colors except for Christmas-related things. Then we coordinate in red sweaters.

Nope. My DH is fairly normcore. He will sometimes wear a button up shirt with a native American print/pattern. Then there I am in some outfit that looks like a dystopian nightmare of shredded sweater and leather leggings or moto jeans with some wicked boots. People have to wonder why we're together when we don't even look like we're from the same universe LOL

Not unless it happens by accident. We don't usually match colors or even levels of dressiness. I like to dress up for date nights and he doesn't.

Once my cobalt dress matched his shirt, we laughed about it and went with it. It hasn't happened again.

No, with rare exceptions. I can maybe recall one or 2 times when I thought we actually clashed in some way that struck me enough to ask DH if he would wear a different shirt or pullover.
Dressiness level is almost always me more dressy than DH, mostly because he has about 3 wardrobe "speeds", while, with accessories and footwear and fabrics, my outfit options can have more flavors!
