My interview outfit is still sort of up in the air but I will probably end up wearing the houndstooth jacket (not sure what underneath) and black slacks. But, do I have to wear heels? If I do I'll go find a pair. Will they make me look more professional?

I'm also a total dud and forgot that I should have a portfolio for interviews so my goals have changed slightly to accommodate this. I need to make a portfolio!

I really want the event planning internship because it will be hands on experience that I want and need!

So today's goals are to look through my documents and decide what I want to use in my portfolio and print it out. I need to learn how to put together a portfolio... should it be in some sort of binder or what? I can't believe I didn't learn about this in school.

On a totally unrelated note, I took my new David Kahn jeans to the tailor yesterday because they were too long and I am scared to death he's going to make them too short. He measured them for flats and I told him I wanted them on the longer size, but I have this gut feeling that they're going to be too short. I have such important worries in life. :)

Marianna, you are making me laugh because I had the exact same experience today. I took my David Kahn jeans to the tailor -- actually, I have a new pair of skinnies that I wanted hemmed for a 1-2" heel and and an older pair of bootcuts that I wanted hemmed for flats. I was so nervous that they would make them too short that I only managed to entrust them with the bootcuts. My skinnies came home with me untouched. So I share your important worries :)

Yes, you should make your portfolio in a nice binder with some sort of closure. They have binders with plastic sleeves that you slide the papers into -- maybe Pearl would have a good selection. (You're in Chicago, right?)

Haha... glad someone can relate to my worries! My jeans will be ready on tomorrow so we'll see what happens. I hope my gut feeling is wrong.

I split my time between Chicago and the Bay Area... but my interviews are in Chicago. I'm still sort of new to the area and I have never heard of Pearl? What is it? :)

You don’t need to wear heels, Marianna – unless your slacks require it. A dressy flat will do nicely. Good luck with the portfolio prep! Sounds like a marvelous idea. Let’s see the outfit you have in mind.

As for the DK’s, pants that are too short are a HUGE concern because you have big bad Angie to contend with if they’re not the right length. Don’t worry!!! I’m sure your jeans will look perfect :0)

I went to the Rack today... didn't see any suits in my size. Tried on some heels, was tempted to buy some but realized that my slacks would definitely not be PPL with heels. I did buy a nice winter dress though! I need to take pictures of it and see if it works.

I'll post pictures of my potential interview outfit when I'm back in Chicago. My slacks and dressier flats are there.

I applied to a couple more jobs today and did start working on my portfolio. The portfolio is going to take quite a few hours to put together. That's going to be my main focus for the next few days.

Thanks Kari! They're both for internships (unpaid) but I guess the experience will be really valuable. Both are on Tuesday!
