Maya, harem pants became YLF-approved together with stirrup leggings And sandal booties too

OK, at the very least I am going to try them on and take a picture.

I remember when Angie first blogged about harem pants neither she nor anyone else seemed to have positive things to say about them so I'm just curious as to what caused this change of heart? Stirrup leggings were only discussed recently and were received relatively warmly, even though they're not mainstream.

I am not fond of harem pants or sandal booties. I can't even imagine combining the two, unless you're Aladdin. But I will try and keep an open mind and see how your pics turn out first! My Middle Eastern half is trying to be more accepting, but I'm afraid isn't being so successful right now. Maybe I am just not as fashion forward as I like to think.

Wait ladies! I have to set the record straight. I am always consistent with what I say about fashion and style. If I have had a change of heart – I blog about it (like I did with skinny jeans three years ago – remember that?) So this is how it is:

o I mentioned in my Tel Aviv post that harem pants work well in certain geographical locations. I had to see it in action on the street on fabulous Israeli women to believe it. HannahC lives in Israel – that’s why I’m encouraging her.

o Stirrup leggings got my thumbs up immediately. But others are weary.

o I was drawn to sandal booties from the start, but sadly few others approved.

Oh, Angie, I know, I was just kidding! And I also remember your change of heart about the skinny jeans!

BTW, I think harem clamdiggers look better than harem full-length pants. Somehow, the clamdiggers look almost like a bubble knee-length skirt. Hmmm ... now I really must try them on and take a picture. I am afraid I won't do them justice, though - believe me, they truly looked great on that woman I saw recently!

Maya, your Aladdin reference cracks me up! Or else you can wear harem pants with regular gladiators and imagine that you are indeed in a harem

I guess I just find the idea a bit too costume-like when you put all of these "ethnic" pieces together at once. Maybe I'm just not in the right cultural context.

I actually remember someone posting clam-length harem pants on the forum not too long ago...but the picture was too dark so I asked her if she could take a picture with better lighting. I don't know if she ever did. She wore them with a blazer and heels, if I remember correctly. I think if harem pants must be worn, that's the way to do them. The rest of the outfit was very modern and structured. I might be able to accept them in that context.

I do like the look of jodhpur-like pants, though they would probably look ridiculous on me. Are they more along those lines?

I didn't mind the sandal booties at first, and I have to say the more pics I see, the more I am liking them! Would love to see some "live shots" on real people though. I'm hoping these'll be in shops here in a few months time come summer because I'm def. curious to try them on at the very least!!!

As for harem pants, def. not for me. The idea of looking like Alladin is somewhat appealing however!

OK I just saw these sandals on modcloth. I kinda really like them!

Bumping.....or is my taste level so bad that is why no-one replied?

Tam, I think you will carry off those shoes marvelously. Please post pictures if you do end up getting them!

Tam, I love these sandals! Go get them (and wear them with your colorful bag ) Pictures please!!

You can pull these of with fyling colors.

Yeah, those sandals are really cute! You should totally get them, Tam.

Now for something not to get (speaking of harem pants):

Oh, these pants are hysterical! Aren't they called "bloomers"? I mean, these appear to be long bloomers in floral patterns, er ... what to call them, I wonder? They still look like bloomers, though?

And Cciele, what do you mean "speaking of harem pants"? Haven't you seen that Angie challenged me to try harem pants? I am still not mentally ready for that, but I am getting closer Those, on the other hand - I really hope nobody on this forum will challenge anybody else to wear them.

Hello! Where were all of you when I virtually single handled defended this look on this blog post!!!

http://youlookfab.com/2009/04/.....al-bootie/

I think HannaC chimed in support. Thank you! My opinion is the same. This look is fabulous if worn in the right way. Totally wish I could wear the look. Tam, go for it.

I agree those harem pants are awful, cc. But I have challenged HannaC to try and get the RIGHT pair. I saw wonderful versions all over Israel worn stylishly and they REALLY worked in that location. Lucky HannaC for being on the cusp of fashion in Israel!

Oh no, I wasn't meaning to denigrate harem pants -- I think you should totally try them HannahC! I was just trying for a change of topic (from sandals to a bad example of harem pants). I love the look of harem pants, when done right.

Hm, the pants do kinda look like bloomers, right? I guess bloomers would have the crotch where normal pants have them, and harem pants would have the lower crotch.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Still seriously considering them - have always wanted to try buying something from modcloth.com too. Angie I was sitting on the fence when you did your blog post. I did bookmark 2 of the pairs you pictured and the more I look at them, the more I like them. This could be a cheap way to experiment with this style. We'll see!!!

As for the pants - a definite pass! They sure are amusing though!!!

Tam,
I love those shoes but I would get them in a cognac color. I think you would look great in them. I do remember the blog and think I was among the few that liked them. I wonder about the comfort but have been meaning to try on a pair. I almost ordered these but DSW is terrible about returns and they are likely uncomfortable.
