Banana Republic's new limited edition collection is hitting stores this week. Have you seen it? What do you think?

I like the classically elegant styles previewed and will be interested to see the quality in person. I was drawn to the lace shell, tie neck top, cigarette pants, and leopard print satchel. The prices generally seem in line with other BR items, so perhaps these new pieces will be well received.

I saw parts of the collection that were soft launched on Gilt Group and while it certainly looks intriguing, I'm curbing my enthusiasm. Banana Republic has struggled with fit and quality over the past few years, two qualities that are indispensable when convincingly recreating vintage designs.

I'm interested too, Kyle, although I don't want to look like an extra from the set of Mad Men, so finding the right items that can be mixed in with my existing wardrobe will be key. I think that AT is killing BR right now in the fit and quality departments, so maybe this will give BR a much-needed boost.

Well, I love the idea! I wouldn't be bothered to look like some cast from Mad Man. I actually wished for a red Joan Holloway dress ( that one that makes her look like a present to quote her misogynistic boss). I love dresses, and sheaths, and was hoping for some more along those lines. Even that way, I love the blouses! And the black sheath dress and the grey suit, and that nice hairdo of the model ( let's not forget the red shoes!) Now only if I lived in the US...

I just started watching this show and saw an ad for the Banana Republic collection the other day. It was fun to look at but i doubt i would buy anything.

Granted, this collection has yet to fully launch (as DL pointed out the preview sale on Gilt); however, I feel more people would be going bonkers for it had it debuted after the first season of Mad Men.

And I agree with Laura, some of the pieces look really nice, but one most be careful not to look like a character.

I would say that the Mad Men look is right up my alley, but I was a little disappointed with the preview - nothing was screaming at me that I had to have it - but I will take a look again once the full line comes out and see!

I got a jolt when I looked at the BR mailer. That blue print dress looked so familiar. During that era my Mom made several dresses out of a Vogue pattern that was the very same style. She had a blue print, a pink print, and a rose print. She wore them with pearls. I think several of her friends had the same dress--none of them were as svelte as the model but I thought they looked good at the time. (The BR print is much more modern than my Mom's.)

I personally think I will skip the Mad Men look--but how many times have I said I would never wear (whatever) and a few months later I do. Maybe some of these outfits could be modified so they don't look costumey. I think they would be great fun for the very young.

I found the above slide show of the collection. I don't know how much of the show's style it's channeling. The men's side of it looks more interesting than the women's (and more Mad Men inspired). I do like the grey womens' suit.

Ooh, thanks rachylou! The men's side does look more "Mad Men", but that works better for me since I'm looking for classic pieces. I'll cross my fingers on the quality aspect ...
