Macy's and Gap haul: keep or return?

I hit Macy's today after reading about Marianna's great bargains. They are having a great sale this weekend! Many things were an extra 25% or so off, and if you have a 20% off coupon even better.

I found the black (as well as taupe + gray) silk moto jacket on sale in the regular INC dept for $29--unlike in the petite section, where the jacket was 25% of the $89 regular price (boo). The black jacket is really neat. There are two sets of zippers you can use to achieve difference looks, one with a cowl collar and one with a diagonal one. I ended up getting a denim tencel version, which only has one diagonal zip, since silk is not too practical given my lifestyle (although I will probably regret it since the price was basically $24).

Here's my denim jacket. Do you think it is too tight? The medium one fit better in the shoulders, but I didn't like the way it hung (not as cheeky). You can see a little bit of the $11 necklace I also picked up at Macy's:

White tunic shirt with another new necklace. Note that I never wear woven button downs, so this and the next shirt are pushing my envelope! This white one, is it too maternity? Too long? I know it's hard to tell without a full body shot; having photos difficulties ATM.

Note about sizing the Gap one: I ordered it in petite, but it was too short for me, hitting about 3" above the crotch. Sleeves were great in length though. Both shirts (regular and petite, size M) pull at the chest, but the large is way too big in the shoulders and torso (this is why I rarely wear buttondowns).

If you've read this whole post, you're a saint! Thanks for any feedback, and hopefully I can have some better photos with outfits later in the week. I have some fun ideas for the denim shirts.

I love the jacket on you! The cropped fit looks great on your petite figure.

I am clueless about tunics, so I will leave that one to the fashionably talented ladies.

I prefer the gap chambray on you. I think the scale is better and it nips in just right on the waist for your figure.

I like the jacket too- it doesn't look too tight at all.
I'm not crazy about the white tunc, but cant' make a full assessment without seeing a full length shot.
I prefer the gap shirt on you over the longer one.

I LOVE the length and the wash of the Marianna duplicate but the Angie one might work better depending how style it up. Have you had a chance to play with both yet?

thumbs up to the jacket! not sure about the white tunic -- do you think, as queenie said, that we could get a full length shot? that'll give us a better sense of proportion on your frame. and yes, prefer the gap shirt as well!

Love the jacket. Not sure about the white tunic. You look petite, and it's a looong shirt. I have one too. For that same reason, I like the Gap shirt better too.

I agree about the tunic--hard to tell without a full body shot. It does look long now, but you have no legs in this picture so of course it does! When it comes to tunics, I like mid-thigh best on me, and I think we are about the same height. Anything longer creeps into dress territory for me. Unlike average height people, who can wear dresses and tunics interchangeably, I feel like petites have very clear distinctions between dresses and tunics. Anything that is long enough to wear on its own generally looks silly as a tunic on me.

I still don't really get this whole denim shirt thing, but as far as fit goes, I think I like the Gap one better too.

The INC jacket looks great. I think the fit is perfect.

Twins! Isn't the denim moto the same style that I got? I'm pretty sure they are identical, just different colors. Or maybe there is a slight difference? Anyway, I really like it on you, keep!

I'm partial to my chambray tunic, but Angie's looks fab on you too. I like them both.

I like the fit of the white tunic on top. A regular white button down would be great on you. For the tunic, I agree that a full body shot would be helpful. I think it's the empire waist that bothers my eye. Maybe you could belt it or find a tunic that has darting near the waist?

I'm with Maya, not on the denim shirt train yet. But the chambray is cute on you and it should be really versatile.

queenie -- I'll try to get a full-length shot of the white tunic soon. I think I am agreeing with you about the tunic though.

taylor -- I also like the wash of Marianna's shirt. When I look at the two, they are pretty different in color, cut, and style, although both nominally in the chambray family. I'm going to play around with them and post some photos.

Boof -- I agree the white shirt is really long. I read your review of the shirt, and I realized that I got the same size that you did (it was the only one left). How tall are you, if you don't mind me asking? I think I am shorter than you and a bit smaller in the bust (34C). One reason I initially like the shirt was that it did fit in the bust area without gapping across the chest, but I'll have to reexamine the fit in other parts of the shirt.

Maya -- no legs, hehe! Sometimes I think I look better in no-leg pictures since my legs are short Anyhow, you make a great point about the length of tunics on shorties. The white tunic is definitely in dress territory on me. I'm not 100% on the denim shirt thing yet, but I thought it would be fun to experiment

Marianna -- You know, I went back and looked at the pics of your black moto, and it does look to be the same style! The black one at my Macy's was different, having the two zippers. I didn't get a close look at the gray and taupe ones; I'm assuming they are the same as your black and my denim one. We might be double twins if I keep the chambray tunic

Kristine -- I am leaning towards returning the white tunic and getting a regular white button down. I wonder if I should try one of Carissa Rose tops. Even though I'm not huge in the chest, my chest is larger than on a person my size, and I have problems finding buttondowns that don't pull across the chest. Regarding the denim shirts, I think they could be versatile and will be experimenting!

I really like both denim shirts equally so I'm no help on that front I'm afraid.

The cropped denim jacket is really sweet and perfect for over dresses.

The white tunic has great potential but this style is too long. 5 inches shorter and it would have been killer. You really wear an empire cut well :0)

Agree that the tunic does look a bit long, but it fits you so well on top. Is this something that happens to you often with tunics. Or do you think if you keep looking you'll find one the right length?

Both denim shirts look like they fit very well. Again without a full body shot its hard to see if the first is too long. As to which to keep. Depends if you want it as a shirt or as a tunic doesn't it? Spoilt for choice!

Angie -- I like both too, argh! I see what you mean by the white top; I agree, it'd be much better shorter. Back it goes; I don't think you all need to see full-length shots because it is really long. I'll try on the petite version, hopefully on sale.

Tam -- Tunics generally aren't too long for me. The white one is the longest one I've ever tried on! Hopefully I will find a white one that is a better length. Regarding the denim shirts, you make a great point about wanting a shirt or tunic. Would it be too silly to have two denim shirts?

Why not just get that white tunic hemmed up? I think it would be perfect, then. I also wonder if belting it up high at the seam would give it a little more shape? Love the denim shirts, as well. I have the Gap one as well!

Love the cropped jacket Cathy. Fit, style and color. As for the white tunic, I'm with Angie. It fits beautifully on the top but seems like it might be a bit long. I actually like both denim shirts, so I'm no help on that front. Could you get the white tunic hemmed?

Jenava and Vani -- Thanks! I love both shirts too. They are different enough that I might keep them both! Got a great deal on the Macys one ($24, down from $69). As far as the white tunic goes, I could get it hemmed, but I don't want to put any more money into it (it wasn't on sale for that much). Maybe I will return it and hope it goes down a bit more in price. Meanwhile, I'll keep my eye out on other white tunics.
