Links between your wardrobe and home

This is somewhat along the same lines of "ordered thoughts, ordered spaces," but does the state of your wardrobe reflect the state of your house or the state of your thoughts? For instance, if your wardrobe is well-curated, and small, would I find the rest of your home to be in similar taste? If you have a large, eclectic wardrobe, would I find your home to be busy and mildly chaotic? And when things are chaotic, is the state of your wardrobe the first site of organization or the last?

What an interesting question. Hmmmm, my house is definitely chaotic and my husband is very particularly about decorating and I am not. So, though I love our house decor and the colors, it is not what I would do in a space that was mine and mine alone. With two pre-teens and a whole lot of their friends over, there are always things everywhere. My wardrobe , on the other hand, has gotten quite tight and orderly.

But in my fantasy, I would have more flowers as accents. I would have brighter color walls and throw pillows. And deep reds or burgundy furniture. Ironically, this is not how I dress I am a total neutral somewhat conservative dresser. I am going to look for pictures. This is fun. I will post pics later.

I try to keep the house in a similar state to the wardrobe - on the small-medium end, tidy, with a few personal touches.

Yes, my home is eclectic and somewhat disorganized, just like my closet and my personality. Also too much stuff for too little space.

ETA: but my home also reflects my husband's taste, which is rather less insane than mine, although in some ways also eclectic. We use his extra bow ties as curtain tie-backs.

I think it depends on who has control of and who lives in a home. I guess my ideal home reflects my closet -- my closet is under my control and my home isn't. I like clean, with low clutter levels, organized, functional, practical, durable things and I'm a sucker for deep rich color, neutrals, and textures, especially soft or warm ones. I love art but insist that it is well-cared for and don't like to dust "stuff" so I would consider my collections' well-curated.

My home reflects my favorite colors and textures and artwork and isn't minimalist, but is well-organized and light on 'stuff' (except for cat toys, those are everywhere). My wardrobe is on the medium to large side, but organized by color and regularly reviewed, tracked, and culled. I'd say both my home and wardrobe are highly functional and express my design aesthetic, I always can find something almost immediately, I have very little of anything in storage, and it is well organized too.

My home decor could use the kind of refresh for worn out items my wardrobe has recently, come to think of it. I'm waiting until the cats are out of the kitten/teen stage though before buying anything new that is upholstered.

We built our house last year and went with a very modern, sleek interior. I like to think that my wardrobe and style is moving more sleek with cleaner lines as well. We'll see. But the closet cleanout that occurred before moving sure helped. In the home the mindset has been on simple, quality, stylish fixtures. I'm hoping that translates into my fashion-style as well. Who knows

There are some similarities..both have a mix of old and new. My wardrobe is pretty organised though, as are some parts of my house...but I struggle in the office! That is not as organised as I would like!

Diana -- extra bow ties? Your husband has multiple bow ties? Lol my own husband barely knows about regular ties. He's probably never even touched a bow tie. Last time we had a wedding to attend, he had to google "how to tie a tie". All the weddings and funerals before that, he got his dad to tie it for him. HIS DAD. This is a man in his forties, mark you.

Anyway, to the original question: yes, there are definite similarities between the state of my house and my wardrobe. I have a medium-sized wardrobe which is an eclectic mix of classic basics and offbeat statement pieces. Colour-wise it's limited, though. I choose mostly sedate neutral colours. Our house is the same. It's classic, in a way, but with odds and sods from all different sources -- several framed graphic art posters, a bookcase full of beautiful books, weird little sculptures from various places we've been, a verging-on-ugly standing glass lamp we inherited from my late uncle, etc. Objects of interest. Sort of like statement pieces in our otherwise sedate and organized living space. The overall space is not cluttered at all, but I have small areas of intense clutter. For example, I can't handle shelves or walls full of little framed photographs -- there's only a few large pieces of art on the main walls, and not a single photo of anyone -- but my fridge is literally covered in my kids' artwork and snapshots of family and friends.

Lol! I don't think a large wardrobe automatically means chaotic! Mine is tidily sorted by type and colour. The rest of my place is less busy than the closet as I like empty space for the eye to rest. So I have less stuff in most categories than in my closet, as I prefer to have just what I need, the opposite of my clothes philosophy! My bookcase is the exception, more like the closet: colour sorted and full of odds and ends that I love. In both cases though I still want everything to fit easily into the available space!
