Lightbulb! Burgundy is my neutral

For the last few years my wardrobe has been neutrals with a bit of burgundy. Burgundy is a flattering color on me, but frankly I find it a bit boring. But time and again I can't deny that if I try on the black one and the burgundy one, burgundy is better on me.

So, I just decided burgundy is my neutral and I'll accent with colors that excite me, like saffron, orchid, teal, blush and gold! Such a simple idea and so exciting to put 2 and 2 together.

...and this also answers my question of whether I need to return my burgundy scarf since I'm keeping the burgundy trench. Nope! I might even get the burgundy jeans and go for a burgundy out outfit!

I also love burgundy. And plum, and violet (in theory--they're harder to find). They're fall colors, though. I have a harder time figuring out a summer neutral. There's always blue. But anyhow, enjoy your new neutral! Can't wait to see it with those accents!

Mochi, I wear burgundy in summer too. I pair it more with blushes and camels and light denims in summer though. In winter it's with more blacks and charcoals. Now I'm going to start pairing it with bolder colors.

Raisin is one I get often too.

I wear burgundy, wine and the like all year long. There is always some of it in my closet. Some years the majority some years only a few pieces.

...I think I might've told you to return the burgundy scarf. That was before I read this!
I think you're really on to something here Traci. I always prefer burgundy leathers to black, but I never allow myself to buy them because it doesn't coordinate with all the other black leather items...but that doesn't seem like a great reason anymore considering the high availability of burgundy these days.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think I might be following behind you on your burgundy journey.

Smittie, you did! And I agreed with you and bagged it back up, ready to return to the store. But then I came across the pictures in my phone and noticed it really is a nice color on me. I don't really notice it in person, but that put my return on pause.

You were right on the other part, I'm not going to duplicate the kimono in gray.

btw, in case you hadn't seen my reply yet, I just saw you in your trench on another thread. It might not be burgundy, but it's close, and it looks fab! So much better than black!

Burgundy is a great color for me, but so hard to find compared to navy. I wouldn't mind adding burgundy to the navy and charcoal I wear. I did manage to find a burgundy top and a great pair of burgundy boots this year, though.

I wear burgundy as a neutral too. It doesn't look great near my face, but it plays so well with other colors (year round), and looks great in leather and faux leather too. I have shoes, jeans, a silky shell top and bags in burgundy.

Great style epiphany! Burgundy is a great neutral and so much more unique than black! The color combos you can make with it are really interesting. But for a true neutral look, i like burgundy with animal print.

My 4 winter overcoats.
Burgundy has been my neutral since last decade.
And it works fantastic with my yellow undertones.
Last winter I discovered purple. Good for you to discover a neutral that is very versatile, trust me. Works four seasons for me.

I love burgundy too. I am going to buy it up while it is available! And I will enjoy seeing your accent colours with it. Saffron and orchid sound great.

And great to drink, too!!! Back in the day (1980s?) when having one's colors *done* was all the rage, the color analyst gave me a ton of swatches ranging from those that are high energy (*dramatic*) for ME to understated to neutral. In addition to colors that we traditionally think of as neutral like navys, grays, browns, and beiges were forest green and burgundy -- colors that look fine on me but don't have enough oomph for ME in a solid non-textured garment. Weird to think of burgundy that way, isn't it?
