Last night I went on a "date night" with my gay boyfriend, and because we are both super fancy Fashionable Urban Dwellers, we decided to walk to the restaurant from our respective Fashionable Urban Apartments, then walk to the theatre, then walk to a nearby watering hole, then walk back to the Bachelorette Pad, from which he took an Uber cab back home due to the lateness of the hour.

I'd picked out an awesome outfit to wear, but at the last minute I had to change because (a) it was colder than I'd expected and I didn't want to be cold), and (b) I decided it was really not a good idea to wear those high heels for what was going to be a total of about two miles of walking on city sidewalks. Plus there was the "open toes" issue, about which see "colder than I'd expected," above. So I ended up wearing jeans, ballet flats, a sweater, and my mixed-media moto jacket. Which was fine but not as fab as the outfit I'd had on all day for running around town.

And that made me think that if I were planning on being a permanent Fashionable Urban Dweller, I would have to change my style in a couple of ways -- more walkable shoes, lighter-weight handbags, more climate-friendly clothing. Because quite plainly my wardrobe is the wardrobe of somebody who goes everywhere in the car.

Life is full of trade-offs, isn't it?
