Levi's 505 Straight Leg

I was on the hunt for a non-premiun pair of everyday jeans for flats, and I found them. I will post back in at the end of the day because I am going to wear these today, but I think that I'm in love. I got these for under $28 (on sale plus a coupon), so the price was right. The rise is nice and high (even though they are labeled "mid rise"- the rise was listed as 10 3/4 " I think). They come right underneath my belly button- no muffin top, no squishing. They have just enough stretch to move with you and be comfortable (1%), but I had them on yesterday afternoon and they didn't bag out. I wanted these for flats, but even the short inseam was very long on me. They were also a tad on the loose side (but the next size down was way too small). I ran them through the washer/dryer on hot and now they are perfect- they shrunk up just enough, and the length seems much better now.
If you're looking for a straight leg jean with a higher rise, give these a shot.

I agree! The 505s are my favorite jeans; I can wear them very casual with cowboy boots under or dress them up with ballet flats. The 505 does have a bit more room in the hips and might fit pears better. I tried on another straight leg Levis style, and it was cut straighter in the hips, so was too tight on my curves.

Chewy, where did you find your new pair? I look for them everywhere but cannot find them. I got mine at Goodwill, but now want to duplicate them.

I tried on a couple of different styles of Levi's in the same size, and most of the rest did not fit me at all. The cut of these does seem to be very different.
I found them at Kohl's, but I have seen them in ads at JC Penney's, too.

I used to love 505's. Now I prefer 545 or 512 but the leg on 505 is fabulous.
You can also order form Levis.com or Kohls' is out of your wash or size.
More and more i return to my trusted Levis.

Thanks, Chewy. I don't have a Kohl's locally, and had not check JCP. The photo on the JCP website shows the jeans with whiskering across the hips and that is something I don't want to end up with, so I want to purchase them in person.

I got the Blue Wave color, and it is a solid dark wash. I think that Sears carries them, too- or check ebay, I saw some there.

I have a JCP so will check there soon. I think I have the blue wave color now, and its a good dark wash. That's what I want to duplicate.

The other straight leg I tried on was at Ross, and was only $14.99. So if anyone wants a straighter cut through the hips, try looking at Ross. I wish I could recall the fit name.

Thanks for telling us about these - I'll definitely go and check them out at Kohl's. I have one of those '15% off everything' coupons burning a hole in my pocket :)

I *struggle* with jeans. Not ready for premium jeans yet, but I think I just need to get out there and try a whole bunch. I mean, something other than my Wal-Mart jeans or what have you.

I'm also eyeing the Jag brand "Lucy" jeans. They're not premium, but they look good to me. Nordstrom has them at $59 right now. I'm hoping these might be a good pair of bootcuts for me for the time being.

In the meantime - I'll definitely investigate the Levi's 505. Thanks!

Do these jeans have stretch?

Posted 2 weeks ago

Some stretch. I wash them every 3 wearings or so, and they don't bag too much until the end of the third day.

I wore them all day yesterday. I did a lot of bending, sitting, and generally running around (we hit four different grocery stores, cleaned the kitchen and took dd to dance class). There was only a slight stretch by the end of the day, so I am very happy with these for the price.
The stretch fabric is only 1% Angie- I can't remember if it's Lycra, Spandex or something else.

I am brand new to this site and have never posted on a "blog" before, but caught your message about Levi's 505's and just bought a pair myself in the dark blue denim wash! I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing but they fit so nicely and were super cheap ($29.99) at Macy's. I have a 34" inseam and they are the perfect fit with flats and I even have tucked them into my tall boots (also new). I always have a hard time finding pants and jeans long enough for me. I thought I was suppose to be wearing boot cut, not straight leg jeans, but decided to give them a try after reading everything here, and they seem to be flattering on me. They do have 1% spandex, I hope that's a good thing!

I'm so excited to have found this site. It's like having your girlfriends help you get dressed in the morning, but better, because they are going to tell you the truth! I had been feeling a little frumpy lately and buying way to much of the same sort of things (the basics) and not the things that give your outfit the "wow" factor because that is what's hard for me to do...I'm beginning to branch out and realize how much fun this is going to be! Thanks Angie for a great site...

Chewy, I'm glad your jeans wore as well as mine do!

Carole, welcome! How fun that the 505s post encouraged you to join. Isn't it neat that you already trusted your judgment and found a great pair of jeans? :)

Cricket, only after spending a million hours reading all the posts here, lol! I have lacked confidence about what to wear, and buy, this is a great tool for me, this is going to be fun!
