and not just from women. My husband commented on them. The Redneck Paralegal commented on them. My afternoon client, a 43 year old guitar player in a heavy metal band (dealing with his mom's estate) commented on them. All favorably, but still - these are not for days when I feel like a wallflower!

I don't think I have any one item that get's a second look. I'll have to think about that.

I have a very bright olive green dress that is very polarizing. The color is super flattering on me, but many people have an avocado fridge reaction to it. I once wore it to a wedding and was made fun of by the bride and her mother while I was in earshot.

I aaaabsolutely have attention-grabbing items (quite a few, it must be said), and I definitely don't wear them on the days I want to melt into the woodwork. If I happen to have a giant zit on the end of my nose, I don't feel the need to repeat that colour in my, say, footwear. (And when, by the way, does one stop getting zits? They promised me it wouldn't happen once I got past my teens. I'm 39 and still waiting!).

I have a lot of shoes that get comments at work and anytime I wear something slightly fashionable (since I work in a very boring conservative atmosphere) I get a lot of comments. Animal prints for example.

It's been my experience that anything even a little bit unusual gets a comment. I do remember once having a big healing zit on my forehead (yup, 39, ain't aging wonderful) and dressing kinda sexy in a skirt in the hope that the eye would be drawn downwards and away from the giant red crater under my bangs. The big boss came by and said something about my zit (!!! thanks, unsocialized boys!) and I horrified the entire office by hollering back at him, "You're not supposed to be looking at my zit, Chris, LOOK AT MY LEGS! JEEZUS! WHAT'S A GIRL GOT TO DO?!"

I have a real talent for making men shut up and back away fast.

I've been asked at work on more than one occasion how many blazers I own? (currently 14) And that I wear a lot of blue. I'm not sure either comments are very positive but they are elements of my style that I really like so I stick with them.

I usually get some kind of comment whenever I wear my bronze straw fedora.

"I don't care what other people say, I like your hat." Really, what were other people saying?

Today a guy said to me, "Do you wear that mac daddy hat alot?"

I don't let it get to me. I luv my fedora and the fact that it makes my unruly hair day more awesome! : )

My pink Kenneth Cole coat, via lovely Inge, gets comments every time I wear it. If falls under Kendall Farrs description of "a classic made in an unusual fabrication". In this case fuschia sateen. And the best thing about it is that it is such an easy mixer in my largely neutral closet; it works with just about everything. Visual below :).

I LOVE your blue boots! I'm sure they brightened everyone's day

My attention getting item is funny...a pair of brown heeled oxfords. I have strangers come up and comment on them frequently. Once, a woman literally grabbed my arm to stop me on the street and ask me where I got them! My only guess is that they look like a good basic?

Elly, I think the color avocado can be very pretty! And I bet it would be really flattering with your coloring.

It took me a long time to realize that ALL colors are relative and are suited to someone out there, even if they don't work for me. Even soul-sucking beige has a place somewhere, I'm sure!

Yep. In my closet, Una. I am one of those weird people who love and wear beige :). And taupe, and oatmeal, and khaki.....but I cannot wear cobalt blue. That's your job!

And Lynne, wear that coat. A lot.

I have a bright red coat and a bright green trench, and get comments about how bright I am when I wear them (not together, obviously). I always say thank you. 'Cos that's a compliment, right?

I'm not sure that I have an attention-grabbing wardrobe item:o( What I get attention for most are well-fitting jeans. My Lucky Dungarees, JCrew Matchstick clams, Hudson skinnies that Sandy sent me and Gap 1969 Always Skinny jeans never fail to get admiration. After this post I'm thinking maybe a furry vest will make them sit up and take notice. Is an older grey-haired lady in a faux fur vest a fashion victim? Would you take notice if your granny wore one?
