Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

leggings and boots???

I am wondering how everyone feels about wearing leggings and boots, not the denim kind but black or brown. I have been doing it and wondered how others felt. I like the comfort, warmth and coverage. Does it look ok or a big no no. I would like keep doing it and feel that hose are not as practical for my lifestyle. I also wear tights bit like the more opaque look of leggings for certain times. I think Angie hates this look but Angie if you do, are there exceptions for us artsy types?
This is an example of a recent outfit,

not crazy about the bag at the knees, but they are not fixed properly and usually do not do that.

I love that look! IF (and that's a big if) I were going to try a calf-length boot, I would consider doing it with leggings.

Looks great to me Jean!

Agreed, fabulous!

I wear them like like that too. They are warmer than thick tights x

That look gets a big fat yes from me. I love it on you!

I've been wondering about the same thing. I love your outfit in the picture, but I am not sure if there is a rule about what textures work best on top.

I think you look great on this outfit and it definitely works well.

I would be curious to know a general rule for this as well.

Oh, you look fantastic!!

Huh, I didn't know there was an issue with leggings + boots; that's what I wore all last winter! :)

So needless to say I am a big fan of the look, and you look outstanding Jean!

I’m confused as to why I wouldn’t like the look? Leggings with boots? It's so normal. And there are very few things in life that I hate :0)

I agree, I think this has been the "in" look for some time.

Not true Angie, you do hate maxi dresses :)

I could have sworn you stated that it was a look you did not care for (probably did not say hate). It is confusing to me why you do not care much for opaque tights with skirts and dresses but do think leggings are ok? Aren't they even more opaque?
I know you prefer hose to tights. I guess I am not getting it, I was reading the thread about tights and hose and you stated if I read it properly that black opaques can look awful with boots. Maybe I should go back and read it again.
I am sure I have something confused about the tights, leggings with boots issue.
Do the leggings I have on in the picture look ok??

THANK YOU DEAR ANGIE!!!

Yes, I was also a bit confused about that. I guess I am not sure what the difference is between tights and opaque hose? I thought they were the same thing???

Blonde Ambition, I didn’t say that there was nothing in life that I hated – just a few things. Still true to my word :0)

You’re right, Jean. For the most part, I’m not fan of opaque tights. They can look drab in my opinion. Matte black boots with black opaques and a black skirt and none of the blacks match. The opaques have pilled and the whole look lacks richness and depth. Sort of tired- looking and very flat. Or black boots worn with black opaque tights and then there isn’t any more black in the rest of the outfit. No balance. Just not so fab when black opaque tights are treated as the only option for hose and people fall back on it all the time. That’s when I don’t fancy the look of black opaque tights. Does that make sense?

However, pull together an all black outfit with texture and excitement, throw in black opaques and it’s brilliant. I guess I feel about black opaques the same way I feel about black clothing. Absolutely fabulous when worn in the right way, but often misunderstood.

The way you’ve worn leggings with boots is fabulous, Jean!
