Leather jacket in summer in Europe?

Light or dark make a difference? Several years ago I spent several days in Copenhagen in mid-July and was so happy I'd brought my dark brown leather jacket.

This time I'll be in Switzerland, London, SW England and Kaliningrad. What do you say?

As I get older I get colder faster.

Also, will I need a raincoat? Last time I was in the UK was in late May and I did use a raincoat. I've never been to Switzerland or Kalinigrad, Russia.

The weather in that neck of the woods can change overnight - literally. (Don't know about Russia).

You need to check the weather forecast right up until the day before you leave - and do the final packing that day. It's really the very best way to get a sense of the weather.

A light leather jacket is something I would take along for sure. And an umbrella.

You'll definately need a raincoat for the UK the weather is fairly changeable here, yesterday it rained all day today is been lovely x

I think it could definitley be appropriate there in summer. A light color would be more summery, or how about a denim jacket and then a raincoat/windbreaker in case it rains?

Definately! Both leather jacket and raincoat. Checking the weather forecast is essential. Sound like a grat round travel you're up to

My brief experience in Switzerland (in the Alps) included getting snowed on on the 4th of July, so I would say the leather jacket may be welcomed!

Thanks to all. I will be checking the weather, but will still have to pack for days beyond the forecast period. Thanks Janet--DH definitely wants to visit some places in the Alps he's missed in the past. He spent a lot of time in Switzerland on business trips and says July should be like spring.

We'll be visiting friends and some relatives, but everything should be reasonably relaxed.

I think that you definitely will want a raincoat in the UK, and the leather jacket could be useful as well.

Case in point: we had beautiful warm, sunny weather here last week so I decided to take the opportunity to go sunbathe on the beach, dressed in warm weather beach-y clothes. I was lying there enjoying the sun and suddenly realized that I was a bit chilly. I opened my eyes, and thought "where is the sun?". And then I sat up, and thought "where is the sea???". A very thick misty fog had rolled in within the space of 10 minutes. I couldn't see more than five feet in front of me and I got rather wet on my walk back to the bus stop.

I would say: pack for spring, summer and autumn. That's what I do when we go on a summer holiday as the weather can go any which way.

Can you bring both the leather jacket and the raincoat? I think both would have their place and be quite useful. Also, try and find room for a compact, retractable umbrella. Have fun, MsMaven!
