I bought my first pair of tall boots almost exactly a year ago, and until six months ago, that was the only pair I owned. I believe Angie asked me at one point how I'd survived living in Seattle without boots, and the truth is that I just accepted wet pant hems as a fact of life.

Fortunately, in the past year I have managed to acquire a total of four pairs of boots that fit my calves. as winter comes on, I'm glad that I have so many since I can't stop wearing them! I realized that I only wore non-boots once in the past week.

I'm interested to hear your assessment of whether the more rugged boots can work with skirts, particularly the ones I wore on Friday. The weekend prior I also wore my Rockport boots with a skirt simply because it was too rainy to wear anything else. Any thoughts?

Wow Kari you are stunning! You are so hourglassy and dress your shape so well.

I love your boot collection! I actually love the look of more rugged boots with skirts. I really love the contrast and in general like to mix casual and dressy items.

I love all your outfiets and you can certainly wear your rugged boots with skirts. My favorite is Tuesday. I'm surprised but I like the shorter skirt length with the boots.

Oh, very cute! I commented on your blog for some of these, but I don't remember seeing some of these outfits. I love the black striped top, the blue cardigan and skirt, and the casual day with the cardigan. I LOVE you in blue, it's such a great color on you.

The biker boots really work with the skirt, in my opinion. I love the combination of rugged and girly. I really need to get to the shoe shop and get my boots fixed so I can finally wear them.

To answer your question: you can absolutely wear rugged boots with skirts and dresses. I do that ALL THE TIME. I actually virtually pair cocktail attire with biker boots. Love the contrast.

You look amazing in all of your boot outfits. You have a great collection. I feel much better now for having 4 pair. I thought I was be extravagant but I guess here in the PNW it is normal to have a collection.
The suede boots always look so good and soft.

Thank you so very much for all of your helpful and encouraging comments! I guess the consensus is that I should keep on wearing this look. I actually wore each of the boots in question again today and on Monday and am growing more comfortable with the look. I've admired many of you who incorporate rugged and feminine items in the same outfit with so much success, so I am thrilled that it's finally working on me. I guess it's all about striking a balance so that I don't actually look like I'm about to hop on the back of a motorcycle!

Because I tend to dress up more than other members of my department at work (at my level, anyway) I'm trying to add more casual or playful elements in my work wear that will make me look a bit less buttoned down and more fun/approachable. That was part of what motivated me to wear the more "rugged" boots with skirts instead of only wearing them with skinny jeans. The saving grace is that even though I've been wearing both boots primarily with pants, they have enough stretch in the calf section that they are still snug enough when I wear them bare-legged.

Angie, I am beyond flattered to have had a "killer" week. I don't take that lightly, either!

San, I was thinking that 4 pairs of boots was a lot, too. For a while I wanted to buy every pair in sight, although I tried to be very choosy about which boots I *needed*. However, I'm actually thinking that four pairs in different styles and colors is the perfect amount for me in our climate since I've been wearing each of them so often, particularly if (like last year) I'll be able to wear them through April!

Including booties, ankle boots and boots of all descriptions, I have 13 pairs of boots (all colours, heights and levels of dressiness). I have a pair of wellies too, so I guess that makes it 14. We wear boots and booties 6 months of the year around here so I’m not counting! Got to keep those feet happy :0)

That is a great point about the amount of pairs of boots we should have compared to how often we can wear them throughout the year. All the same, I am done with boot buying until January at the earliest, and I think I have enough versatile pairs (two higher-heeled & dressyier, two low-heeled & more casual, three different shades of brown and one black) that I can get by on my existing collection for the year. However, the comfort and warmth factors are definitely a strong justification for having multiple pairs, too!

First of all, I love you in teal and the cobalt blue dress is stellar. That's a real "Wow" outfit. Also love the more rugged boots paired with the vest that I think has some lace on it. You nailed it all week.

As someone whose not really into the mixing rugged boots with skirts things I still like all your outfits. I think it helped that the skirt you paired them with was a denim skirt so to me it was not as dressy a piece. I didn't love it as much with the plaid skirt but that look wasn't so bad either.
I think I own 10 pairs of boots. Eek!
