La Redoute: Clearance alert & new purchases

For those of you who are not familiar with it, this is a French catalog retailer that has inexpensive trendy stuff. Angie blogged about them a while ago:
http://youlookfab.com/2006/09/.....catalogue/

There are currently having a huge clearance. There are great bargains to be had. For some reason, they haven't received any new merchandise for Spring 2008 and it seems that they won't for fall either- maybe they decided to stop having business in USA.

Here's what I have just received from them. I am looking for a very honest feedback, I am trying to limit the additions to my wardrobe to only perfect stuff ( at least 8 on 1-10 scale). I think that some items are keepers and for the others I am not so sure. So please critique away!

1. Black tie-neck top

2. Grey crushed satin blazer

3. Black&white striped tunic

4. Purple tunic/dress, both unbelted and belted

Thanks for the LR clearance info. I have a couple items from them which I like--one of them being the brown cropped cardi I wore yesterday. :)

OK, down to business:

I really like the black tie neck top. A keeper, in my opinion. I'm not crazy about the gray satin jacket on you. I don't know if the wrinkly effect is throwing me off, but I'm not feeling like it really maximizes your great figure. Let me go back and look at the last 2 photos again...

Tanya, these are good. I especially love the crushed satin blazer. I prefer the purple tunic dress unbelted. And I'm puzzled by the black tie neck top - I think it's really pretty and looks good on your body. At the same time, that would be the first piece I'd choose to return - I think it may be that there are one too many curves on it? Your own wonderful curves, the curves on the sleeve and the neck cutout? It could probably be mitigated by having a jacket or cardi on top.

Sihaya, we have completely opposing opinions on the first two items. So funny! ;)

wow, unique looking pieces! my favorites are the belted tunic and blazer. the others are interesting too, but from my gut reaction, don't quite make the make somehow...what do you think?

i bought a wrap sweater and cream 3/4 trench from la redoute a few years ago, and am sad their US priority has dwindled. their store is wonderful! i just checked the UK website, and shed a tear :-(

Interesting. Thank you for your input. I absolutely love the black LS top, it's a definite keeper. It would be probably worn with something over it most of the time.

I am still wondering about all the other items though. My Bf absolutely hates the striped tunic. You should have seen his face when I put it on :)

oops: make the 'cut'

Hi Cyan, I feel the same regarding LR. I kept checking their UK site whole summer and drooling over a lot of stuff and hoping that they are only late getting them in USA, but no luck. Same now for the fall. I am going to be extremely sad if they decide to ditch the USA site :(

You look beautiful Tanya! I really like the neck-tie blouse on you: it's very striking because of the fitted torso and voluminous sleeves... it's a keeper in my book! The grey crushed satin blazer looks a little short in the sleeves, but that could be easily fixed depending on how it is constructed. It isn't as curve-showing as some of your other outfits we've seen, but I know you were looking for that when you went to your conference - how do you feel about it? I love the tunics: I thought they was a dress originally and thought of pairing the striped one with a long jet-black beaded necklace, flats or heels, and a clutch for a night out! :) I like the purple tunic belted the best. However, I've not entered into wearing tunics yet, so we'd better trust the opinion to someone else besides me!

Tanya, I LOVE the black tie blouse. The jacket is OK, I could take it or leave it. The others I would return.

Hmm, right now I'm feeling like keeping the black top, returning the striped tunic, and undecided on the jacket and purple dress. I'll wait for more advice from you great gals here :)

I like the black top and the purple dress belted. Not crazy about the jacket--looks too big? and the other tunic top has funny bunches in the armpit area.

I am with Nicole, I like the black top and the purple tunic looks good belted. How is their quality? If it's not very good, I wouldn't keep the tunic. I don't care much for b/w tunic - I think someone in her early 20s could maybe pull it off. The satin blazer shape isn't great, but it would be a fun piece otherwise.

Hmm, so is the consensus to keep the black top and purple tunic and return the rest?

I Just wanted to say Goodbye to everyone, I am off to sleep and early tomorrow to the airport. I do not know how much time I'll have to post here while in NM. i shall miss you all a lot!

I'll worry about which of these LR stuff to keep when I get back. Feel free to post your opinions though ;)

Ohhh! I’m sorry I missed you. Have a super trip!

Love the black top and the rest of the items are nice, but not fabulous. I’d love to see your waistcoat over that black knit top.

I say return the rest. The purple dress is too clingy. Beautiful colour though.

Have a great trip, Tanya! Have fun in NM (you'll be so close by!).

Well, my flight got canceled for an unknown reason :( The best they could do is to put us on the same flight tomorrow. So after an 'exciting' round trip to the airport we are back at home, about to go to sleep. Tomorrow we shall try for the second time to leave, but that's one vacation day less. I hate airlines sometimes :(

Posted 1 year ago

That's rotten luck Tanya-( I hope tomorrow will be 'smooth sailing' and that you guys have a wonderful vacation!!

Posted 1 year ago

Oh no! Grr....stupid airlines.

Posted 1 year ago

Sorry to hear about airline delays, Tanya. I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow. Have a terrific trip!

Posted 1 year ago

Oh no. SUCH a nuisance. What's on the agenda today?

Posted 1 year ago

Thank you for you compassion ladies. There's nothing much on the agenda today, other than getting some sleep ( we hardly got any because there were tons of things to be done before the trip, since this is also BF's moving out trip) and maybe going to our favorite restaurant for dinner. Then tomorrow morning it's the airport again :(

What a complete pain, Tanya. I'm sorry you have to deal w/ this. Better luck tomorrow!

Tanya: The first top is very chic and distinctive. It's a keeper. I also really like the blazer. It has a funky twist and looks great with the jeans. I'm not sure about the tunics. The one labeled black and white stripe reads oatmeal on my monitor, and it does not do you justice. The belted dress shows off your tiny waist. I think I would prefer that one worn as a dress instead of over jeans. Hope this helps!

Thanks Kyle! I think I'll only keep the first black top. The blazer is a bit big and the sleeves are tad short. The b&w tunic is pretty unflattering, and while the purple one is a bit better, it's still not so good.
