Kristen Weekly Outfits: Formula #3, dressed up

I really love Angie's whole flop-proof formula idea, although most of them are for a casual dress code and I need to go a couple steps up for my everyday wear. It occurred to me that I essentially have taken Formula #3 -- the Casual dress + tights or hose + tall boots combo that Laura65 so wonderfully modeled for us on the blog -- and added a little tweaking to make it appropriate for the office.

My new formula is:
Dress + Layering Top + Necklace/Scarf + Long/Short Cardigan + Tights + Boots/Booties

I wore this combo every day this week, and I will probably wear it every day next week. There are so many variations I don't repeat an outfit at all!

Monday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....045873323/
Black knit LOFT dress, cream ragged-edge LOFT tee, gold J Crew locket, long teal ATFactory cardigan, brownish-black cabled tights, brown FS slouchy tall riding boots

Tuesday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....553646145/
black AT sheath, sky-blue patterned sheer scarf, military blue regular-length BR cardigan, black striped tights, grey fabric bow Naturalizer booties

Wednesday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....058304702/
purple-brown circle-pattern Marshall dress, purple ragged-edge LOFT tee, 3-in-1 mixed-stone tasseled necklace, mustard yoked Halogen cardigan, purple cabled tights, brown slouchy FS riding boots

Thursday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....otostream/
This time I wore a sweater underneath the dress instead of over.
black LOFT jersey fitted dress with lantern sleeves, two long silver necklaces, purple cowlneck F&T sweater, grey striped tights, grey FS patent heeled oxford brogues

George really likes those shoes, LOL. http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....otostream/

Friday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....otostream/
The Grape Ape outfit; everything but the boots is a shade of purple!
aubergine AT sheath, pink-and-purple F&T skinny silky scarf, grape AT long cardigan, grey-and-black striped tights, plum patent LC rainboots

And it can go on and on and on... :)

Kristen, you look so cute every day~ and I love your dresses. You are the master of sheaths! I would like to find just one sheath. They are hard to find right now bc they are all so darn short , at least at Banana Republic which is always my first stop. I really need to check out AT and AT Loft. Fabulous week!

Fabulous! My favorite is Wednesday. I think it's the dress style that appeals to me and probably the color. Every day is a winner. I'm thinking this is going to be a big look for me this winter on the days I don't need to wear suits. Thanks for providing inspiration.

Kristen, what an amazing week! You look fantastic. It's too hard to pick a favorite - I love the scarf you wore on Tuesday, the color combination on Wednesday, and the whole Friday outfit because I love purple.

Thanks for posting about updating the formula to make it dressier - that is so inspiring.

Like you Kristen, I err on the dressier side and rarely dress casually. I am smart casual and business casual most of the time, and this year in particular I am wearing my jeans less and less. But I too use my formulas and swap out the components for smarter items. Works like a charm!

So from one frock and boots obessessed lass to another, you score a big fat 10 for the week! Love your fabulous frock style, Kristen! Wave to Laura :0)

Thanks all! I picked up a couple more dresses this weekend at the Rack so expect to see even more combinations of the formula.

Agrace, BR dresses are just too short for me too, but I do love them and keep trying them. AT has come out with some spectacular ones this season; I'm not crazy about their tops and sweaters right now, but their dresses can't be beat. I have also had several dresses tailored to lower the hem line so it's a little more reasonable; check if you have fabric to do so when you are shopping.

Whooo, a 10 from Angie! I blame/thank you for getting me on the dress kick, you know -- but it's worked out so perfectly for my wardrobe needs! I can go business casual to business with just a few accessory or sweater/jacket changes. The flexibility of the formulas is just amazing; it's a hard thing to wrap our minds around sometimes, because so many fashion formulas say you *must* have this piece or the other, but your flop-proof formulas don't restrict like that and they are still, well, flop-proof. :)
