K/R Topshop Dress ETA Toppers

Am I wearing Topshop blinders since I have a sugar eye for that brand? My dress arrived yesterday. Not sure if I can tie the sash as shown. DD said she thought it overwhelmed me but she only saw it to just below the shoulders. What do you think?

I think it looks terrific! You're not overwhelmed at all. The unusual shoulder/bicep fit might look big if that's all one saw, but the structure of the skirt and tie (even when not knotted the same way) balance it just fine. The length is perfect on you, too.

I love it. But, confession, also a Sugar Eye here. The minute you posted this in another thread I collected it and tried to see if it is available from the Bay (our Canadian Topshop source). Which, for good or ill, it is not. So I want you to have it so I can enjoy vicariously.

I like it more on you than I do on the model. The cinched waist helps to keep it from overwhelming you.

The waist is snug and tighter than on the model, but I still have a bit of post-holiday bloat. I wouldn't say the dress is uncomfortable, even when I sit down. The greatest annoyance is that I have trouble getting the last six or eight inches of the zipper up since I'm lacking in arm flexibility, probably related to my scleroderma. I have this problem with all back zippers. The looseness through the arms and shoulders is wonderful!

My next test is toppers and whether my EF and/or Topshop ones with large arm openings look okay, or whether I can squish down the sleeves to fit under my trench or jacket, or how this looks with my many vests. If I am overly limited, this is going back.

Interestingly, even though I am not that fond of the picture of the dress by itself, I think it looks phenomenal on you. It looks different and so much better on you than "on the hanger" as it were. I hope it works with the toppers you are interested in wearing, as I vote keep.

Hi Donna --

So true that this has much more appeal on you than the model!

Hope you find layers that work with it, though to me it seems like a great piece to have when it's cool enough for light tights/textured hosiery and warm enough for bare legs. Is that too limited for your needs or climate?

I am wearing my tie belt like that today and I sometimes do a neckerchief in that style. It is just leaving one end of the bow and pulling the other side through. I like my bow to be on the outside.

My EF topper worked reasonably well with this dress so I wore it when I returned the other two sizes. My military sweater that I have almost passed on a couple of times is probably the only thing I will ever find with mutton sleeves to fit over this dress. My hacked sweatshirt also fits, sorta. The solution would be to raise my thermostat.

Thanks everyone for weighing in. I am keeping the dress. Since it is 100% cotton it is so-o-o comfy! I have such a sugar eye for denim dresses; I have two others plus a denim jumper.

I love that dress on you, but not covered by the toppers. Those sleeves are what make the dress special for me. Is there a way you could layer UNDER it, to add the warmth you need, without hiding or changing the dress's unique silhouette? I'm floored by how much I love the dress on you, uncovered; and how indifferent I feel when seeing it layered over top of.
