K/R: The Zara Circus Striped Jacket is here ....

I have attempted a few stylings with the blazer. The fit is a bit oversized and not a tailored fit (I am wearing my regular size S in Zara) . The shoulders seem to fit well. But the sleeves seem a tad long. I have a couple of questions:

1) Do you think I can pull this off? Truth be told, I hated it when I took it out of the box yesterday! I just looked a bit too much of stripes! Today I decided to give it a shot by styling it.

2) Is the jacket a bit too long, a bit roomy overall? Any other obvious fit issues? Longevity of the jacket?

3) The quality doesn't seem great. Which is weird because I usually love Zara jackets. I bought it on a sale (45$) .... but still?

And to top it all I did a mistake. I did not read the return policies properly ... it is a PITA for this particular online site. Argh! So, if I could make it work I will.

So here we go:

1-4 -- Simple column of black. Front/Back for fit issues.

5/6 - Inspiration pic and an attempt at cool .... With BF jeans and heals.

7-9 - Inspired by Angie's Bally Spring 2015 collection pin: With flats ... Stumpy? 8 is not the most practical

10-11 - Inspired by Angie's pin again - Denim on denim look. I could do with a better denim shirt

So what do you think? K/R? Hope I don't look like a wannabe cool here! All thoughts and suggestions are welcome. You can be ruthless Thanks for looking x

P.S Please forgive the unstyled hair! I had fifteen minutes flat before the school run!

I like the blazer...For spring and summer, this would be a perfect addition...statement piece...fun to wear...However, you must be the one panting to wear it out the door...If you don't feel joy with it on, by all means, let this little sweetie make the return run...Its up to you...

Great inspired stylings, Neel! It appears you are wearing the blazer, and not vice versa, which would be a risk with an attention-grabbing piece such as this. It really looks super on you.

I recently came across basically the same blazer, although by some very high-end brand, in a thrift store. I kind of loved it but decided that for my life, it was too flashy. Seeing how awesome it looks on you is giving me a bit of regret about that decision...

All blazers at Zara are oversized now, I think you look amazing! Keep it!
Oversized blazers are so trendy!
I would wear it with the sleeves scrunched!

Hmmm, I was a little unsure when you first posted Neel, and as I expected you have styled this beautifully. But if you don't love it, It could become an orphan. My problem with pieces like this, is that I tire of them quickly. For 45.00 it's probably fine if you only enjoy this for a season as I suspect it may not necessarily be a long term resident of your wardrobe?

I think you've styled it brilliantly. I especially like it with the BF jeans in 6 and 9. Can you semituck #6? It is very much a statement, but such a fun one.

Neel - you look absolutely stunning esp 1-4. I could see this with black skinnies too. But it's an incredibly bold look. I will tellyou I tried a jacket like this and returned it. You carry it off beautifully but only you know if this is your "statement." It's fabulous on you but only if you love it!!

The jacket makes a strong statement but you have styled it well. Looking at the photos I see you and the whole outfit, not just the jacket. Whether or not to keep depends on your comfort level.

I like it more than I thought I would! I like the fit very much and the way you stylled is perfect.
It is a statement blazer for sure and quite attention grabber so you should be OK with this fact. If you are then I think it is a keeper!

Your styling is terrific - I especially like it with the black. But it is a lot of coat to wear, and you have to feel like you want to wear it if that makes sense.

I agree with the others so far - it looks great on you, and as you've styled it, but it is a loud and memorable pattern, so will you wear it enough?

Funny . . . I looked first at the photos of the models and thought, hmm, I'm not sure this works--then I saw your take, and loved it! Not many can wrangle a graphic this bold, but you can, obviously. To me, the jacket over the plain black column looks incredibly polished, and the distressed jean pairing (really disliked it on the model) looks fun and casual.

I actually really like it on you, especially with the jeans. It might look a little big but reminds me of the 80's style jackets which I think it's trying to emulate.

I like the blazer best with the jeans, which you wear very well. It is a HUGE Statement, so you have to absolutely love it to keep it, Neel.

Most definately a statement piece. A very big statement. That you don't love . . . I normally think you have to at least really like a piece to keep. For a statement piece, it should be love.

I vote return it. Although I like your stylings, particularly with the jeans, I fear it will become an orphan. Put those fashion dollars towards a true love.

You've styled it fabulously, Neel. I would only keep it if I loved it, though. You totally make it work and if you think you'll wear it then totally keep. Definately a statement piece

I love your stylings, especially with the denim jeans. I would wear this to an art show, to some kinds of edgier theatrical perfrmances, modern dance performances, and out to dinner -- at a restaurant or bar where the normal clientele appreciate individual style. You really do look fabulous in this jacket. I could not pull it off but would enjoy seeing it on someone else.

You've styled it really well, but I have the same concerns as others -- it's a very bold statement piece and I would be worried I'd tire of it quickly. Somehow high-contrast statement pieces seem particularly tricky to me -- like they stress out my eyes or something. It looks nice on you, but it's kind of a one-trick pony, IMHO. Give it some thought and keep if you decide you love it.

Oh my gosh! I LOVE this on you! Absolutely stunning! You can dress it up (wear over an LBD) or dress it down (slouchy skinnies or BF's). What's not to love??? This is beautiful - and with your energy and personality you can definitely wear this and be one of the "cool girls. "

I feel like I need to channel Annagybe here and say that this kind of look, if you feel authentic in it, is what style is about - yes, you are making an impact in this jacket, but it is not too much on you. I don't find it offensively bold - it's what a statement should be! Throw it on and let it work its magic. Just food for thought.

I think this jacket really suits you and what I know of your style. What I tend to do because of the 'will I burn out on it' question, is try to estimate how many times I will want to happily wear it in a season or year, and how much I want to ideally pay per wear. That often helps me evaluate whether to keep statement pieces.

I really like it on you. Of course it is a Statement, so you have to be OK with that.

One thing that is bugging me a little bit is how the stripes on the collar don't line up with the ones on the back. But then again I doubt many people are going to be staring at the back of your neck!

I think it's all about the love.

It looks fantastic on you--meaning, it looks as it should look, to my eye. I think scrunching the sleeves is important to show you are the boss of the jacket, and to break up the pattern a bit.

I especially like how it goes with both the sophisticated dressy black outfits and the blush and denim (brilliant copycat; you wear blush well). Hard to call this jacket versatile, really, but that is kinda versatile for such a graphic high-contrast item.

I guess the statement item issue for me, since by nature I might not wear weekly, is not so much can I wear it every day, but more, for how long (ideally more than one calendar year if something is good quality/pricey) or at least transeasonally, multiple times over the year (or spring through fall, say). So $45 is after all an initial modest investment, and wearing a couple of times a month, or more if out and about with different groups of people,plus just for me, for fun. over several seasons would seem okay IF it has high happiness.
So, you're not loving it for its workhorse sensible nature, but to say, life's too short not to wear a fun jacket sometimes if the price is right. That's how I'd look at it. You may also learn something about your style and whether this type of trendy/fun piece is something you want to repeat from time to time.

But if you're uncomfortable in it, then that just means it may not be "you" and you may find another fun jacket that is.

When I took this out from the box and threw it on over my lounge wear ... It was just blah! I thought the stripes were too broad and wide spaced. In fact I made the call to request for a return. And when they explained the very detailed procedure o_O ... I decided I would give this a try. And hence the stylings the next day morning. I think this jacket is one of those things that pictures better than it looks IRL. I also feared, if the jacket was too overwhelming on me and if I was drowning in it.

After I styled the jacket, I felt much better looking at myself in the mirror. I also needed a few votes of confidence from you all ... To actually step out in this. Since the vote here seems to be unanimous that I don't drown in the jacket .... And it does look good, I think I am going to keep it.

Where do I wear it? Hmmm ... I am not sure! But I don't really have any statement jackets as such. So this could be a great piece for me to throw over basic outfits and make them fab, when I really do want to stand out. May be for my birthday dinner next month?

Diana - Yes, I did notice the collar at the back. But I would mostly wear my hair down. Hopefully it shouldn't be an issue

Rabbit/Deborah/unfrumped - I think I want to keep this and wear through many many seasons ... The reason being I do not want to be known as the girl who wears the striped blazer . I would rather wait until people forget and then re wear it ... Or wear it for entirely different crowds

I have a circus stripe jacket too that I hate yet want. It's a little bit "where ya gonna go with that." My circus stripe blouse and skirt just never say that. Nor, come to think of it, did my navy and white wide stripe jacket.

I think the styling of it with denim / chambray is the ticket. That's bang up right. I think I've just realised a black and white circus stripe jacket needs to be more casual. Unless one is going to go steampunk and cause epileptic seizures left and right...
