K/R Handwash coated jeans?

I guess this is probably super obvious now that I think about it. i just bought two pair of coated NYDJ at Nordstrom Rack. It's my favorite brand and the prices were great. ($9 and $18) When I got home I realized both are hand wash. Is that for real? I mean, I suppose they are, but I can't fathom actually doing so. Is there any work around or should i return? my life style is NOT conducive to hand wash only.

I have a pair of coated NYDJ jean and I washed them inside out on gentle, hang dry. They were fine. I'm going to pull them out and see what the tags says. I never considered hand washing them. Do you wash after every wear? If not, you might not have to wash them that often anyway.

The pairs of NYDJ pants I own have all stood up remarkably well to machine washing. While neither of them are coated denim, I own a pair made by another brand. I've practically lived in the things for well over a year and machine-washed them regularly. They still look and feel good as new. I suspect as long as you wash the clothes in cold water and don't subject them to time in the dryer, you'll be just fine.

For that price I'd totally take the chance. In fact I put all handwash stuff in the machine on delicate and hang to dry. Turning these inside out is a great suggestion.

We were told here that you don't wash but FREEZE your coated jeans and the freezing action kills bacteria. I pop them in a plastic bag when I take them off and leave them in the freezer for a day or so. I don't wear mine a lot and I am a bit of a sweaty betty walking person but also really into mega clean fresh clothes and it has passed my pretty high standards AKA I would never wear any item for more than half a day without a full wash except maybe a blazer... not sure if you have heard of that.

Almost anything that says "Hand wash" can be washed on gentle in cold water. It is wise, as others have mentioned, to turn coated jeans inside out before washing them. FWIW, freezing makes bacteria go dormant, but it doesn't kill them, and they become active as soon as you wear the jeans again. Then again, the bacteria on clothing isn't likely to hurt anyone, either; it might just make them smell if you don't wash them.

Thanks everyone! I tried them both on at home and decided to return the brown ones. DH really didn't like them and even though I did, I couldn't quite picture myself wearing them. I decided not to let the hand wash rec scare me away from the black ones, though, as I know I will wear them. I will try to wash them infrequently, will definitely try the freezer and will do the delicate inside out, line dry route when I have to. for only $9 it's worth the risk.

I'm a little afraid the brown ones may be one of those items I regret returning......
