K/R: Blush Theory

Unlike my Theory Lanai K/R thread, this one really IS a keep or return thread - lol! I found this wool blend Theory blush pink blazer on eBay and grabbed it. Still has the new $385 price tag on it from Nordstrom.

Unfortunately it is dark out already so outdoor pics are a no-go today and I have the feeling my wall colour is slightly skewing the colour of the blazer - it is a lovely soft pink blush tone - not beige or taupe.

The shoulders are all warped from the way it was packaged and pardon the wrinkles - it needs a good steam for sure. Here are a couple of very quick stylings - not sure if they are the best.

So here are the questions:

1. how is the fit?
2. what do you think of the colour for me?
3. could this work with my wardrobe?

Yes I think it would be great with your wardrobe Shannon but I am concerned about the fit. Those folds that run from the waist & under the arm to the bust could indicate a problem with the fit. I would need to see it sans wrinkles for sure.

Shannon, you're right - the yellowish wall (and lighting) doesn't "flatter" the jacket. But I think the jacket flatters you!

I have to say I like it much better with the jeans and patterned tee and Pettys. It seems to play best against the softer tones there. But in a different light that impression could change. I do think it would work with pants or dresses/ skirts.

How do you feel about it?

I am sure it would look a bit more streamlined once the sleeves were shortened. I always have that issue trying jackets on. Scrunching helps but it will look nicer scrunched when the sleeves are the right length already.

The back looks like it fits you well! But I agree with Caro those folds on the front might be a fit issue.

I think the colour is lovely.

First impressions:

- fabric is gorgeous - softer, with more drape than the Lanai
- color is beautiful and is flattering with my pale skin and salt and pepper hair (you'll have to take my word for that because of the poor colour quality of the pics)
- agree that the sleeves somewhat ruin the fit and push the shoulders unnaturally (I also find that with my Lanai jacket and need to properly shorten the sleeves - more work for Wonder Woman)
- agree that it plays nicer with soft tones. It's almost too harsh against black. It would look stunning with white jeans I think.

Concerns:

- may be a tad big but need to steam it so it can drape properly and then determine
- could try on Saturday to get an outdoor picture to s how the true colour (as long as it's not snowing!)
- will it work with enough of my wardrobe to warrant keeping

I think it will work cross seasonally as an unusual neutral. It would definitely work with taupe, white, grey, soft denim blues, some burgundies.

I am enabling here. But FYI, I am returning the Zara one. I am not happy with the texture of the fabric -- a bit too stiff for my liking. So back it goes.

Love it on you, fit and colour. The colour is not quite as nice on you as say, that amazing berry red coat, but that's a high bar. The pink does look great on you and it behaves as a soft, interesting neutral. It looks like the blazer puts a different spin on a lot of outfits you already have, which is awesome. I hope you keep it

Assuming the wrinkle across bust and under arm is just from poor storage, yes yes yes it works and flatters. Have you tried it with red?

I really like it. I can't tell about the lines people have mentioned. (I'm appalled that the seller crammed it into a package so as to maul the shoulder structure)
Anyway, nowadays a lot of jackets are made with fused fronts (which I loathe because it takes the life out of it) but if this is made the old fashioned way without fusing, then somebody who is aces with the pressing can coax a lot of shaping and leeway into the structure, without actually having to alter anything.

I like it! Esp. With the softer contrast of the jeans and light shirt. Ill be having a learning experience with you re: the underarm folds and whether they steam out or indicate some incorrect fit. And what ebaying! I always seem to find myself dissapointed there whilst you seem to have cracked the nut.

Suz - it is an unusual neutral, which is kind of nice. Good to have something different now and then, right? I have become a total fabric snob and completely understand returning the Zara jacket if the fabric isn't what you're looking for. I'm finding more and more how an item feels on to be key to my happiness factor.

Vildy - I was a little surprised at how the blazer was packed. I couldn't believe how small the package was. It does not have fusing. And that article about steaming was fascinating - and frightening. Thank you so much. I will try simply pressing the creases out first.

Sarah - don't praise me too much regarding eBay. My two recent jean purchases were a total bust.

Hard for me to envision it once steamed. I agree with the others that it probably needs it to be able to assess fit as I can't tell if it is wrinkles or fit issues.

Love the shape, love how you've styled it with #1 and all pretty and sleek in #5. The color is divine on you. I am bothered by the lapels they seem outsized for the cut and shape of the jacket.

Oh Angie - thank you sooooo much for chiming in I have fallen in love with the quality of these Theory blazers. They just feel so completely different from some of my other jackets, you know? And I really like how the cut away style works for my petite apple shape.

I will get the wrinkles out and have the blazer hang on the proper hanger for a couple of days to get the shoulders back into proper shape and will try to get day time shots on the weekend.

That cut away style is perfect for you, Shannon. You fill it out beautifully. I'm pleased as punch that Theory blazers are working out for you. I'm a huge Theory fan and found the investments very worthwhile.

I bought an ink Theory blazer yesterday completely unplanned. A modern and very simple ink blazer had been on my shopping list for years, and I just stopped looking because it wasn't a priority anymore. Everything seemed over-styled with too much detail - until I fitted on exactly what I was looking for yesterday, and it had to follow me home. Low stance, ultra crisp and strict, refined, narrow lapels, a little masculine, one button, fluid, not too long, impeccable quality, and fits like a dream. I'm thrilled.

Angie, your ink blazer sounds divine. Looking forward to seeing it in one of your killer outfits and the description of your blazer really illustrates how different bodies need different styles. I couldn't wear a straighter, low stance, one button blazer like that because my curves won't allow that shape to sit right, whereas the cut away style actually works with my curves. Love that today's fashion allows us all to find what we need!

I bought it at Nordies though, and it was hot off the press so available in my size. Look at the video. It fits just like that - albeit a little longer because I am not 6ft tall. I am absolutely thrilled with my unplanned purchase.

Angie - thank you! I tried it on the other day and have some things to say about it. I will make a post tomorrow! But in brief (and double apologies for the thread hijack, Shannon) -- I liked this fabric a lot for the jackets. Both the Gabe 2 AND the Lanai fit me beautifully in this fabric. The bad news? It's a big fat NO for the pants in this fabric -- at least for me.

Threadjack officially over, and Shannon, you have a new winner on your hands.

Love the cut of the jacket. I like the way you have styled them in all the pics. I love number one the best though (mostly because I am a casual girl myself). I think it is a keeper and a good change from your mostly darker coats/jackets.
