K/R ASOS Dotty Trench

Thistle

The ASOS dotty trench arrived, and I am . . . uncertain. I ordered my normal size and am almost wondering if it is too big.

I am including a picture from ASOS of more what I thought it would look like . . .

It looks a bit big through the shoulders, the long sleeves are throwing it off too. How does it feel? I do love it though.

hmm i'm not sure if this white is your color. i'd like it better in a bright, or even black with white spots. it does look too big and long overall.

It's a great torso fit! Not sure if sizing down is the right move. Maybe? Too long in the sleeves and length to my eye, though.

I wonder whether a colour would be better? But this type of dot does not photograph well either so we aren't seeing it at its best. What does Mr. Thistle think?

I quite like it on you! I agree the sleeves and length seem too long though.

I admire a sleek very close fitted torso on a trench like some of the ladies have been posting, but that just doesn't work for me. I need to be able to layer. I think the shoulders and torso look good on this.

Mr. Thistle thought it was "okay", but he thought it looked odd with trousers. He commented on that a couple of times, actually. Maybe because of the coat length, as you note.

He liked the RL skirt in the other shot, that and the MK top the other day he insisted I show you and not just outright return He was very happy when "The Ladies" as he calls YLF validated that it looked good.

It's close, isn't it? I'm bordering on really liking it. Would it help to have more pictures with the sleeves and hem pinned shorter? It's really flattering through the waist, but of course you actually have a waist

I do love the dots but I think the fit is off for one thing--either too big overall, or too boxy--you can take a more refined silhouette. Also I think you will look better in a mid-range color, if not a neutral--since you were considering something more summery and trendy like the dots, you might find a deeper color that has some contrasting trim or something that pops and looks fresher than a khaki trench. LIke white dots or print on a darker background, or white piping on a fresh color, or something.

Hmm, I'm not sure if it's actually too big for you or just looks so because of the light color and shape, but it does look as though it's overwhelming you. I vote return.

I'm a sad no. I have a hard time finding coats that look sleek and still fit my shoulders, so it's a struggle. But this looks too big all around, and I too am not sure of the color.

Hm, it is hard to see in a pic where your actual shoulders are versus the coat. Is it big in the bust, too? I also think that if you kept it should be shortened, but that is easy compared to the rest.

Looking at the model the length is a big difference - hers is above the knee and mod/swingy somehow. She must be really tall!

It does look way too long in sleeves and lower half length. The model has it quite short, but then she's probably 6 foot tall! I rather like the pattern and colour though.

Hmmm, it feels too big? With it all buttoned (but not belted) can you grab the front torso area and pull it out away from your body very far? If so, you may be able to size down. Pretty trench.

I am not smitten with this trench. It seems to play differently IRL than on the website. It feels too long, but what I am noticing the most is the way the hem lies- it seems to be a fussy fabric to get in place. Does it have a nice "hand"?

It may not be worth it to try to get this up to Thistle standards. Well worth trying. I was excited to see it.

This really does look too big.

I am wondering if you will get the use out of this colour and pattern that you would like. I love polka dots so reluctantly voting "return". I think "the one" is still out there for you.

I'm not loving it, it does seem to overwhelm you a little. I think there is too much fabric under the arms & at the shoulder line.

What did you decide Thistle? It's a lovely coat but I don't think the overall fit is good enough for you.

It is packed up and will be returned tomorrow. I wanted it to look more like the model - shorter and swingy. The model must be at least 6feet tall! It is too big in the shoulders, arms, and the length is too long. The cost of alterations would be more than the coat, and the fabric is just not that level of quality.

Was fun to try though, and adds a bit more to my NAS fund.
