Sorry for the horrible pictures - I had a helluva time trying to get the color to photograph. It is more like #2, but way more bright and saturated. More like between a combo of 6 and 7, but the sheen makes it look dull when I use flash.

Found on clearance at Marshall's - I LOVE the orchid color, but does it suit my personality? Half of me says it's moody and Burberry-sh, while the other half is afraid it's too sweet.

I'm not at all concerned about having yet another trench. The style is one of those few that feels totally ME and UWP while still looking acceptably classic and non-threatening to others.

Love, LOVE it! Of course, purple is one of my favorite colors. But you look fantastic in it. If you pair it with edgier bottoms, it takes away from any "sweetness." It looks great with your striped skirt.

Oh yeah baby!!! I love this on you Rae and Eva is totally right, pairing it with your edgier bottoms and boots will negate any sweetness you're worried about.

I think it is fantastic on you. The color looks great and it fits very well. I think the wearer affect the level of sweet and if you put it with your tougher pieces any sweetness is offset. Even if it was sweet, I would say keep.

I love it! Definitely keep. The shape and fit are perfect - I have been wanting a shorter trench like this for a while. I love the color too - it's like the princess part of UWP, and just perfect with your edgy boots.

I think that in combo with your other outfits it suits you. e.g. 4-5. I do think this color is great with your complexion...

Jeanne, yes, I have 3 trenches (rust, caramel, and black). Those are all long, and as I said I really like the style since it feels militant to me without being scary to others. This would be a bright, springy trench since the citron trench project failed.

The color is definitely a departure. But maybe it's okay to experiment when the price is right? You ladies seem to think it looks good on, so that is a plus!

Question that has no bearing on whether or not to keep: is it okay to wear short, lightweight trenches indoor? Or are they supposed to come off and be an outer layer only?

Oh, very cute! I say keep! It fits you nicely and the color looks great on you. I don't think it's "too sweet" for your style at all, because you can just use it to add a pop of something different to your usual look.

It's a bit of a departure for you, but I really like the color and style on you. It will work into your wardrobe just fine with a little Rae edginess. FWIW, it's not too "sweet" on its own.

Sweet? Apologies for using a bad word, princess, but I'd have said 'tart' --- like black currants or something! And also: 'royal'. Definitely not unworthy of a warrior, either.

Seriously, not seeing the sweetness colourwise at all --- but it is a SWEET find. LOVE that length (with Diana, I want one too!). So great for showing off your legs *and* your boots!

Very flattering Rae. It goes really well with your striped skirt, so a perfect work item. In a business setting, I would remove the coat indoors. But in a casual or smart casual setting, I think you can keep it on but maybe open it up so you don't look cold or like you're hiding something.

Love the color even though I wouldn't think Rae if I saw in a shop.

By the way - I did spot this yellow anorak jacket at the gap today and it was marked down in that store to 19.99. On website it is higher. I thought it looked better in person but it is a lightweight bright yellow sporty type jacket if you are still hunting.

Thanks so much, everyone! The tags are not off yet, but I have moved it from the hallway to my closet. I'm leaning toward keeping it; Joy, I especially love how it looks buttoned up!

Thanks also for the advice on wearing indoors. And Christieanne, thanks a bunch for noting that jacket at the Gap. Unfortunately I can't do the nylon - that's why I got rid of my first yellow jacket. :T

Keep, silly girl! Also, I wouldn't plan to wear a trench indoors, but I do without hesitation when I am too cold.
