Knit Palazzo Pants: On Trend?

Methinks I found myself a leggings replacement. I've been a skinny/slim leg girl for years yet somehow, I've embraced flares (I have yet to find the best cut on me) and wide legs wholeheartedly. I often dreaded the warmer weather because I depended so much on layering but when I rediscovered palazzo pants, I thought I found my solution to dealing with the warmer months.

I just purchased the top and pants at Marshall's today. The jersey pants are just DIVINE. They are elastic waist, very flowy and they're LINED!!! The top is a typical faux wrap top I would purchase for non muffin-bearing pants (RARE. I often surrender my waist or wear loose tunics). The pictures seriously don't do this outfit justice.

I saw another pair of jersey palazzos in a print but I stopped myself because I'm not sure about the longevity of this trend. They're so comfortable, they're like pajamas yet at the same time they look dressy and sophisticated. Best part - I'd wear them with flat sandals and PPL - a great way to adapt to my new primarily flat footwear wardrobe.

So what do you think? Are they going back in style? Would it be worth purchasing more in different fabrications, colours or patterns?

I too have been looking at those wide pants. Seeing many at marshalls, and other stores, and in the window of a very trendy boutique near me. so I too am wondering about the longetivity, and they do look so cool and comfy for summer.

Well, I like them! I don't think they're trendy, but not dated, I don't think...Just be sure to wear them PPL! Otherwise I'm all for it.

I agree with Jenava. They're a more classic silhouette, which you could make current by pairing with current elements. I would highly recommend pointy footwear, especially if you're going with flats.

@Jenava and @Aida: I just tried my flared jeans on with both round toes (sadly, better for my bunioned feet) and an almond shaped toe - and you're right. Pointy toes make a huge difference. Open toes seem to look great as well!

I'm going to try them out with my pointy flats to see how they look. If there were comfortable, almond toe 2 inch or less heels out there, my oh my would I grab a pair of those!

@Aida: you're right about this being a classic silhouette. I'm going to have to look up some ways to make this more current and more youthful. I am afraid of running the risk of looking matronly, which seems to be too easy for me! Suggestions would be welcomed!

I think it all looks very sleek and nice. I agree that pointy footwear will even bring it up a notch. They sound super comfy - that's tops in my books!

I think these look great on you! FWIW, I would assume that since wider-legged pants are coming into style, these would fit right in.

You sound really excited about these pants, and they look like they fit really well, so maybe it would be a good idea to buy a pair that's quite different, like in a print, as you said. You can always hold on to them while you try out the black pair and then return them if you decide one pair is enough.

As for the almond-toe heels, maybe you should do a post asking for suggestions?

I've always loved wide legs, for their comfort, movement, and easy glamour. The only danger (outside of PPL violations) is a slightly "jammie" look, which you've artfully avoided here. You might also enjoy a pair of white or pastel linen trousers.

@Beth Ann: the "Jammie" look is something I'm conscious about. Wide legs can easily turn this way if not styled well! I've always thought about a pair of wide leg white linen trousers. I'll look into it! One can easily do "romantic/tough girl" with that!

I like how you look, but to be honest I'd be cautious as to how many I put in my closet right now. I do not see a clear future for wide-legged pants in my crystal ball
