Jumping on the white bandwagon...

I got back my 100% cotton plaid top from my Mom (she enlarged the armholes for me) and I paired it with my white wide leg linen pants today. It was/is outrageously hot and this was the coolest thing I could think of.

I have a couple of questions:
1) Is this too much volume for me?
2) Is this just too wrinkly?
3)Should I have changed into my white sandals?

I think the answers are no, no and no! You could wear white sandals but the black ones are also fine and tie in with the top.
Volume on top and bottom I think looks better in reality than in a picture because in real life those pants would have movement as would the top. And what a cool breezy outfit!

I would say no, no and no. I love the buffalo plaid - perfect colours with your white linen, and those look like the right sandals for the outfit. I think it looks cool and comfortable !

Works for me too! White sandals would be an option, but the black ones work just fine. You 'do' black and white very well, especially when you do more white then black.

Great look! My answers are no (volume looks great to me, breezy!), no (wrinkles are a way of life with linen) and yes (the black works well, but I'm a sucker for white footwear so if it's available I vote for it). Re Fall/Winter, if you like the lightness then it's definitely worth hunting a little harder for light items. They're becoming more common and look fabulously crisp

I was just going to write what Missvee did--I like how your black sandals ground the outfit. Do you have white sandals? I am sure black OR white would look great with this--it just depends what you prefer. Great outfit!

Aida--what did you mean, if I like the "lightness?" Do you mean I should keep my eyes open for lighter colours--or a sleeveless winter look? (I do 3/4 sleeves in winter, sleeveless would be too cold, unfortunately.) Or do you mean "lightweight" as in the weight of the fabric? Sorry for all the questions!

Aida, yes, good question.
I am assuming that the volume provided by the top and pants are balanced by the structure provided by my bare arms and chest.
In the winter, I won't have the option of bare skin to balance all the volume--so I m thinking that for winter, I will need to stay far, far away from this silhouette--or anything else related to looking like I have wide legs from ankle to thigh.
What do you think?

Gotcha. In the winter you have a couple options then. One would be to pick either top or bottom for volume, and then do the other with something tailored OR something fluid (which will net you a voluminous look, just less so). Another would be to use boots and a jacket to reign in a truly voluminous look, both of which can add a fair amount of structure (a cardigan won't add enough). You can also do things like a belted voluminous dress with tights+boots, tapered slouchy pants with booties, and blousy silky tops either belted or welted with fluid pants. And you could really emulate this particular look fairly well by subbing in wool wide leg pants, refined booties, and adding a structured topper

Re: reigning in volume, I'm sure I recall Angie saying you can also add structure/skin by rolling or pushing up sleeves to bare the forearms, and wearing open collars or V necks. The other route in winter (the one I use) is to cover the very loose-fitting top and bottom with a structured piece, like a tailored sleeveless vest. Or else I'll wear a close-fitting top (T shirt or whatever) and cover it with a big loose tunic blouse, with some or all of the buttons open.

I think you look wonderful Alana. Yes, yes, and both would work are my answers. The black shoes bookend the top, however white would lengthen your leg line. All good!
