JewelryGirl ~ Week of 04-04-09

I tried to get more color this week, I got a couple of days in but still lots & lots of animal print. I do wear a lot of it. I never noticed how much I don’t think until I started tracking it... Saturday Night: Friends over for dinner. Very casual (jeans, ATL gray cardi, CK graphic t, red cami, slippers – I sparred you the picture

Sunday: No pics, icky rainy/snowy day. Stayed in.

Monday: (Jag jeans, black rayon t – Limited, black cami – ATL, Leopard scarf – NY&Co., black Brighton’s – not pictured)
~ Shiny, I threw a belt on here just to try. Just playing that day, didn't wear the belt out...

Tuesday: (Black JNY pants, blue NY&Co. button-down, very old zebra shell, faceted crystal pendant on leather, black Brighton’s – not pictured)

Wednesday: (Jag jeans, AT leopard top, black BR jacket, tooled leather pendant on black leather, black Brighton’s - not pictured)
~ Shoot this one is fuzzy. Anyway, I purposely wore the light wash jeans as I wanted a more casual look.

Thursday: (JNY Chambray pants, fuscia button down, cream cami )
~ I need to come up with some different ways to wear this fuschia button-down. I think it was an impulse buy early on (when I bought black & white before I started getting real selective.) Ideas?

Friday: (camel micro-check Talbot’s pants, Talbot’s brown cami, DKNY jacket, shell/resin tie-dye pendant on leather, Brighton heels)
~ I love these pants! The color/fabric/print is just soooooo incredibly versatile & they fit great! They are a few year’s old – so wish I would have had the insight at the time to see if they had other colors in the micro-check. These are the one’s I took to the tailor on the length (they might be a little long now but I think I like them that way actually, and Angie confirmed they are indeed straight-leg & not tapered – yeehaw!)

Saturday: (DKNY very very old capri’s, Green t, Black ATL cardi, CK snake belt & Dolce Vita snake shoes)
~ I tried the belted cardi here, as you can see my t & my belt are both too big. I will need to replace the t & figure out something with the belt if I want to wear it like this again.

Easter Sunday: (ATL cream sheath dress, Apriori shrug/cardi, Frye cognac shoes, Green trench, leaf necklace)
~ I did feel really good in the dress. Really glad for the comments on the length everyone – it would have felt really short had I not had the tailor lengthen it! You all have good eye's! It's ok now, but could have been even an inch or so longer.
~ Then, into something casual for dinner at home with the family! I would LOVE to be able to find something similar to the shrug/cardi I have on here. I wear this one ALL the time!!

I love the animal print. I think it's very nice. I hope you continue to go there because it's fun. I especially like the zebra shell and how you paired it. And I took note of your necklace placement. I wouldn't have thought to do that myself.

The black AT jacket is beautiful!

Re the fushia top, I think this is a prime candidate for belting. An animal print belt would be perfect. But then you'd have to ditch the shoes, which are also great. Hmmm. As for your belt, I think it's worn a bit too low. You mention that it's too big so that may be the issue. You could get another couple holes put in and have it work like a charm. If it's too long, you can do the knot like Angie has advised. http://youlookfab.com/2008/09/.....ing-trick/ Also, the pants in the fushia top outfit look a tad long.

The AT dress for Easter looked GREAT. The cardi is really nice.

Wonderful - thank you Alecia! The blog on the belt knot was before I started on YLF - I'll give it a whirl! Yes, I think I must like my pants longer...I need to watch this. Here I thought I was having them too short. Imagine that?! The black jacket is BR. Thank you for the feedback, I so appreciate it!

I think lots of animal print is fine! It seems like part of your signature, so I'd keep it (I love animal print myself), but don't let it stop you from incorporating color. I think of animal print more like a neutral, so I pair it with color (I just don't pair it with itself).
I love the fuschia of that top - I think that top could really benefit from a belt. I think you should also try slightly thicker belts, and higher up on your torso than you currently are. I love how you put your outfits together with your jewelry. You looked great all week, and especially fabulous on Easter!

JG! You look fab! The AT dress with the crochet cardi and matching necklace is KILLER. Love it! (And your puppy too).

I definitely think that animal print is part of your signature style (wave to Antje!), which means that you can go to town and wear it every day if that makes you smile. But I wholeheartedly believe that you should sport ONE animal print item per outfit at a time. Scarf OR the belt. Scarf OR the shoes. Shoes OR the belt. It makes for a more focused and pulled together look (less matchy-mtachy). Does that make sense?

Thank you ladies! Angie, thank you for the note on the combo. It does make sense. I think I have a tendency to try to sneak it in sometimes b/c I'm so used to matching my shoes/belt over the years & I shouldn't do this with the animal. Thanks for noting!

Also, thanks for the vote on "signature style" defintely helps me to not feel like I should be avoiding it.

Why would you avoid something you love? You love animal prints - you are the queen of animal prints (and jewelry)! Enjoy it.

Those shoes in slide 9 are adorable... the fuschia color is so pretty. I'm not the best person to give advice on how to wear a button down so I'll leave that to the others. The white dress looks amazing - if you are going to become more of a dress girl, you'll need to invest in a longer, knee-length coat. Love the green trench - another pretty color on you.

Love slide 3 - the animal print scarf ala Angie. I tried to wear a scarf like that for Easter (in an eastery print) but I changed last minute. It just didn't seem right for me <insert frowny face> or maybe I'm just not used to it. I did buy a $4 thrift shop scarf recently so I am going to give it one last try (never say never). I like how it has an elongating effect.

Very nice! I thought as I looked at your week that the animal print is a signiture for you. I don't get the feeling that you need to stop it at all. It is very you and goes with your style. You seem somwwhat exotic with your animal print and how could that be a bad thing.
I am so envious of your jewlrey collection. Beautiful!

Hmm... it seem the universe is conspiring today to make me spend money! Here I am, flipping through your photos and my UK Elle at the same time, and thinking "Wow, she really rocks this animal print... I've got to get myself some kind of accessory like that." So, I turn the page and see an animal print belt featured for £22. Darn you, JewelryGirl!

Awww thanks you guys, I just didn't know if it would seem like too much over time. I think I've just gotten used to slipping it in here & there over the years because I do love it!

Shiny, I'm not so sure I'll be a "dress girl" but thank you for the note on the jacket. I wouldn't have even thought about that. It will do me fine for now for no mor than I wear it. Funny thing is I didn't wear them but maybe 1 after I bought them because they weren't very comfortable. I tried them again this year because it just makes me mad that they are so stinkin' cute & I don't wear them. And, I think I'm slowly breaking them in. It must be because they are a stiff canvas because it seems like everytime I wear them it softens up a little. I was not used to the scarf either, sometimes I'll try something at church before I wear to work or something since I'll only be in it for an hour or so at church. Weird thing was it made my chest feel warmer. Post pics on your scarf, I'd love to see it!
