J Crew clamdiggers again

I finally made it to J Crew and got the clamdiggers. The are absolutely awesome! Thank you everyone! I'll take pictures, but today is going to be busy and it'll take a while.

While I was there I checked out some tops. I tried the Caterina ones that someone was asking about on the other thread. They didn't work for me - too short and gathered empire waist makes me look square. Maybe it's just me since I hardly have a waist, it just seems that they should be longer or not as puffy.

Ana, they also have the floral shirt you were asking about. I didn't try it on because they only had one size. I liked the cut a lot - but somehow the pattern makes it look a little frumpy... dunno, just doesn't look as crisp as on the web site.

Oh, and now I am kind of interested in matchstick jeans, too. I haven't tried them today. I would also prefer to wait a bit to see how the clamdiggers are after washing and wearing. If anyone owns the jeans, is the cut similar? Do they stretch out or shrink in length after washing?

I've written about this many times before but I don't mind repeating!

I can't say if the fit is similar because I had the clamdiggers on for a tenth of a second and I guess I didn't really pay attention. I find the jeans very snug. Unfortunately too snug. I bought the 26 which is my usual size, but I expected them to stretch a bit. They did not, so now the back pockets sit a bit low since I can't get them up over my big ol' booty. I tried on a 27 too but it was big in the waist. Now I wish I just bought the 27's and had the waist taken in. You're a rectangle though so I doubt you'll have the same issues. These are definitely rectangle jeans. I'd just order your regular size.

Maya has the matchstick jeans, so I'll let her comment on the those.

Thanks for the update on the floral shirt. My J. Crew doesn't have it--you must have a flagship store near you, Lucky! :) I have been looking for a solid shirt that is the same cut and short sleeves, but it has been difficult to find. All the short sleeve dress shirts I have found have puffy cap sleeves instead of a true short sleeve. Or else they're just plain white or black, which isn't really my thing either. I think I'll take a pass on the flowered shirt then and keep searching for something else more suitable to my style.

I bought the clamdiggers the other day as well and I LOVE them. I'm definitely planning on duplicating these. I've tried on the Caterina top and I thought it was okay. I just ordered the solid geranium colored one, but we'll see when I get it, I'll post pics and ask for opinions for sure.

Looking forward to the pics of you in the clamdiggers--do you roll them or leave them unrolled?

Thanks Maya! Sorry I didn't try searching the history for it. I'll give the jeans a try.

Ana, I am not sure about rolled vs unrolled. I think I prefer rolled, even though it's probably more casual. I took pictures but I was in a rush and the lighting is bad. I am wearing just an old t-shirt, but I think shorter tops actually work better on me. And I apologize for the lack of footwear.

I need to figure out how to use the timer feature... the mirror shots are just not working here.
As for the floral shirt - J Crew here is usually well stocked. I tried on another one in a different pattern. The fit is great. The fabric is thin and you'd need a cami underneath IMO. I am also looking for short sleeved non-puffy shirts, even more casual would be okay. If you see one, let me know :) I wouldn't mind getting a good white one, too.

I like the unrolled look better, it gives your legs nice shape.

I also prefer them unrolled. They hit at a good spot that way.

I also like the unrolled better. It really makes your legs look lovely.

Marianne, you must have long legs! When I totally unroll my clamdiggers, they come down past my calves! I like the unrolled look on you best, very sleek.

Thank you ladies! I see what you mean about the length. So great to be able to get opinions!

I like unrolled too. It's funny-- we're both rectangles but you're probably a head taller than me. I had the same problem as Ana with the length before I hemmed them. I've been thinking for a while now that it's hard to do empire waists on a rectangle, especially gathered. It makes us look, well, rectangular as you said. ;) On the other hand, being rectangles allows us to rock the shorter fitted tops with skinnies.

Thanks Patience! I actually thought you were taller from your photos.
I just have to remind myself not to bother with those types of tops. Funny, I used to think that volume helps to hide the lack of waist, before I figured out that fitted tops work better.
