This semester, for the first time, most of my classes start in the afternoon, as opposed to 8:30 in the morning. In order to get there by 8:30, I'd have to get up at 6:15, at which time it is generally still dark. And cold. (I sleep with the windows open all year long, on the assumption that lower temperatures and fresh air encourage deeper sleep). It's hard to tell what the weather's going to be like. If the weather network had predicted a fine day, I'd be inclined not to believe it. And so even if I'd laid out a fab outfit the night before, I would often impulsively swap it for my fallback cozy sweatshirt, loose jeans and flat boots. This was doubly likely to happen if I was a bit short on sleep.

Nowadays, I set the alarm for a more reasonable time (no earlier than 7:30), and I've notice that I am WAY more likely to go ahead with an adventuresome outfit. By the time I get dressed, I can tell what the day is going to be like. I have been wearing fuzzy sweats for a few hours (to drive the kids to school) and am no longer chilly. This arrangement is SO MUCH BETTER than my previous one, I'm not sure I can go back!

Has anyone else noticed this? Who else thinks any wake-up time that starts with a number less than 7 is inhumanly early?
