Is this tunic salvageable?

My aunt got this in India as a gift, but it seems too big. It's a medium but they weren't sure if sizes ran the same so she got a size bigger.

I really like the idea of it. It's very summery and kind of boho and I did want a white tunic. It's also woven so it can be altered. I just need a seamstress here to tell me how? It has these vents at the side which is good because it fits over my bum easily, but when I simulate taking in at the sides, it becomes poofy over my hips and the vents don't sit properly. I know I could ask a tailor, but I have to find a new one :( I figured I'd ask here first, so at least I have some idea before I go and have an adventure with a new tailor.

Since I know everyone is going to say "belt it": I tried but there is too much fabric and it causes the same issues with the vents as taking it in.

Hi Maya....I think it's a cute summer tunic. That might not be an easy thing to find again so I'd try to have it altered. It is surely too big unaltered. I don't think it looks too puffy at the hips when you are pulling it in at the back. But typically that alteration would be done on the sides, not the back. I suppose you could have darts inserted, both in front and in back...but that would propbably be costly.

I'd bring it to a tailor and see what they think.

Definitely worth a visit to the tailor. Even just a cinch here and there will make it perfect.

Well...when I pull it back (as I am in the picture), it looks great. It's when I tried to pull it in at the sides that it started looking weird. I guess I'll just have to try my luck with another tailor, scary as it may be. My aunt said she is willing to get a small and ship it, but it seems like a lot of trouble.

Maya, does the shirt have any seaming in the back? Like a center seam or side darts?

Oh I love it! Very pretty. It would be perfect if you can either get this one taken in or get the smaller size.

Oh, actually it does have darts in the back! Yay. I guess it can be taken in in the back after all. I'm going to give it a wash and take it tomorrow.

Yay! The tunic is SO lovely on you Maya, and once you take it in along those darts it's going be wonderful. The color really brings out your pretty skin tone.

I really like it Maya. Looks like it will be great for summer. As for alterations, no ideas from here!@

Oh I hope taking in the darts in the back works Maya. It's a beautiful tunic and it will be so cool and fun to wear when it's warmi

I was going to ask Nicole's quezzie.

It has darts, Angie. I was going to take it today but I think I'm going to research tailors some more. No one I know gets things altered so no one has an opinion. Sigh. Time to search Yelp...

It's really nice, Maya. I hope you'll share when you've got the alterations done.

Yay, I hope you can get it fixed! It'd be a summer workhorse for sure.

It looks like the quintessential hot, sulty summer tunic, when you don't want anything to touch you.

For finding tailors I recommend calling an expensive fabric store or clothing store in your area, they will know good tailors.
