Is this trench too trendy?

I bought the green trench coat from the Loft (first row, far right).

It fits perfectly and looks very cute on me. The only thing I’m wondering is: is it too trendy? Is it still ok to wear it next spring and the year after? Since it has been widely advertised this season by the LOFT, are people going to say this is so last season if I wear it next year? Usually I try to avoid buying pieces that everyone knows where it comes from, but I like this trench too much and couldn’t find anything better.

Great trench! I don't think it's trendy; it's very classically cut, and the color is warm and can be combined with many other colors. As long as you're sure you'll still the green next year (and didn't just get it because green is very hip this year), I think you're good to go!

First of all, that’s a fab trench and it won’t date. It's preppy and nautical which is always good. Secondly, that ATL green trench sold so fast and was in a limited amount of stores so it’s not that easily recognizable. Wear it and love it.

That's a great trench Jen! I'm glad you started this thread, because I was actually thinking of buying what some may consider a MUCH too trendy trench. You can see it in this picture - it would be the same trench but in beige:

I'm wondering if I will get tired of the front pleats in 1 season, and by next season be looking for something else. I already have 2 black trenches in very classic cuts, but I don't have a lighter coloured one yet. I would love to hear your feedback! Thanks in advance.

Theresa, the one thing that would concern me about that trench, is how it would look unbuttoned and unbelted. Not only is the model wearing it buttoned, but it's buttoned ALL THE WAY UP!

Unless you plan to wear it buttoned up and belted at all times, you might find it impractical or at the very least, annoying.

Thanks Nicole - that's a great observation. It's true that I've purchased jackets like that before, and have felt self-conscious wearing them open or unbuttoned.

What do you think about double-breasted trench coats that are unbuttoned? This was my second pick (but in a beige colour, not black as in the picture):

Beautiful trenches, Theresa. Funky and fab. You shall not get sick of them. Statement pieces. Beige is tricky. Are you dark skinned? I’m not partial to beige and tan unless you are coffee toned. Keeping the first style buttoned is no different to keeping a double breasted style buttoned. You can’t leave a double breasted style un-done.

I purchased the last style in off-white (cream) and it’s one of my very favourite pieces. I cannot wear it without at least 5 people asking me where I bought it. I do not button all the way to the top like the picture. I pop the collar and show the back strap detailing. Fab with heels, boots, ballet fats and Converse. It is PERFECT in every way. It’s quilted which is what I need for our very chilly Springs.

I love that last trench! I was considering purchasing it--my favorite is the white. Chilly spring days last such a short time here, though, I feel like it wouldn't get the wear it deserves.

I was wondering--if I really don't want to buy a black trench, is there a flattering alternative color for pasty gals like me that would work in spring and in fall? And would it be appropriate to wear a trench in November (that's when it starts to get cool enough to warrant a jacket here), or should I look for another style which would be more appropriate and versatile?

I love burnt orange! Just to clarify, should I look for two different trench coats, one for spring and one later on for autumn, or look for a style in autumn that would work for both spring and fall?

It doesn’t sound like you need a Spring trench, Ana. I’d therefore stick to a colour for Autumn & Winter.

Angie, thanks for the advice on the trench! And congrats on finding the WHITE Soia&Kyo in that colour - I have scoured the city for that exact jacket, to no avail.

I am actually Olive toned (I'm Asian with a tanned complexion, and long almost black hair). Would your previous recommendation still stand? And would you stay away from Beige with my complexion?

A warm beige could work Theresa. But I’m all for the green. It looks incredible on everybody I’ve seen wear it. So much more Spring.
