Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Is this dress too small?

So I'm totally addicted to leggings now and keep buying dresses to wear with them.

I bought this dress today but didn't try it on in the store. Upon trying it on at home, I feel that it may be too tight, but I'm not quite sure. This is from Macy's INC and it's an XL. It may be available in the plus size department, but I haven't checked yet. If it is available in a bigger size, I'll probably exchange. If not, should I return?

I have a feeling the verdict will be that the dress needs to be looser, right? Thoughts on the dress in general?

I'm not liking the upper body fit. The cap sleeves are not my favorite (on anyone really) and I think the fit is not as flattering as it could be. I vote return and try larger size or excahnge for different style.

Love your gusto for the leggings/dress combo though :)

Definitely agree on the cap sleeves! I knew they were unflattering when I bought the dress but bought it anyway. Oops.

I have to agree about the cap sleeves - not so flattering. I see why you liked this dress though - I LOVE the neckline!

I should probably always listen to my gut instinct. :)

If you do decide to size up on the dress you might be able to get the cap sleeves taken off by a tailor x

I have to say that I was so captivated by the pattern on the bottom half I didn't even notice the sleeves. The bold vertical line on this dress definitely works on you and makes a striking contrast to the dress and the leggings!

I have this dress only the stitching is white. Is yours white too? Because in the photo it looks yellow.

I love it on you. You'd have to be careful that the neckline and shoulders didn't get too large if you sized up, but if you feel that the dress is tight, it's worth a try.

Laura, this one is yellow. I did see the white one, loved it too.

I like Loulou's suggestion of cutting off the cap sleeves. But I still think the dress is probably too small all around. Le sigh.

Stunning dress! I'm with Garmenta, I didn't even notice the cap sleeves. The pattern is striking. I hope you can make it work because it looks wonderful on you!
