Is this dress style dated?

I got rid of this dress because it was too tight around my ribs. I'm planning on sewing a dress or two for spring and wonder if it would be worth using this pattern again (and altering it for comfort) or if I should move on to a different style...your thoughts?

What do you think about this floral? I've been a little wary of using it in a project because I don't want to end up looking too...cutesy?

I'm not sure about the pink floral for this style. I think it might, indeed, read rather cutesy. Maybe use this fabric for something with sharper lines, to create an interesting contrast? E.g. a pencil skirt?

Amy -- ModCloth and EShakti are full of designs like the one your wearing, and it's a signature style for you. As for the floral, my only question is scale. I usually choose a little larger floral for a full dress (although I'm bigger than you are). This floral does resemble those on Talbot's spring look book, however. I'd drape it over yourself and have a look.

I love the dress on you and love the large scale floral print! I agree that the smaller scale pink print may be nicer in something with a sharper line, as wise Suz said.

Another one who agrees with Suz. I would love the dress in a vintagy pattern. The thing with floral (in my humble opinion) is that some can look very frumpy and some can looks very cool and stylish.

The dress looks very chic and "Mad Men," but I too would advise against the pink. Looks too "Easter dress" for my eyes.

Amy, I was paging through a fashion mg in the library this afternoon and saw the same style floral dress on one of the celeb pictures. Go for it!

The dress is soooo cute and looks really good on you.
However, the pink floral reminds of what IndyGal said, kind of easter dressyish, or something grandma would wear.
Maybe I am just not a pink person. I think I have one pink garment in my closet and I don't wear it much.

I see retro vintage, not dated!

I do agree with Suz about the print. Maybe something bold? The original one was edgy in color because of the orange and lime, so maybe keep that in mind, too?

Luv the retro shape of the dress, but not a fan of the pink floral fabric. What's the best color for your skintone? How about a dress in that solid color?

I think it's pretty and classic, with the right fabric, of course. It's also begging to be tried with a belt!

I agree as well, you look great in that dress! Love the length and the neckline. Whether it looks dated will probably depend on the fabric you'll use, and I like that large floral pattern from the dress. Personally, I'm not sure about the pink floral, it seems a bit Laura Ashley to me (which isn't meant to be negative, it'll just seem dated then).
You could maybe try something with large polka dots or a very graphic pattern, if you want to balance the vintage girly-ness of the cut.

These graphic patterns come to mind (they're from Ikea and probably not suitable for a dress, but you get the idea):

Love it! I love that dress style and vintage-y flavor. I agree--why not try a bold floral or graphic print? Maybe something in orange? Make me one too!
