What IS cool is your taking the time to think about how your choices may affect other people, even people you don't even know. Being considerate of others' feelings is always appropriate! steph
not my fave...but it could be without the claw detail and the side leather/ feathers. then it would be 20s inspired which is supposed to be the next hot decade.
the appropriation doesn't bother me as much as the lack of sophistication and class.
I've been watching "I Claudius" dvd's and I am seeing ancient Rome! The leather headband and metal detail is what makes it look Roman to me. But the feathers are pretty Native, so it's a toss up.
Ahh rats, that I was thinking in the back of my head. It's too literal to get either a Belle Epoque or 20's vibe. Patty, that one your found is nice but a bit too vintagey for me.
Joining Bella and the others on this, too. At first glance, your second link reminded me of Phoenix Rising. What's the dress or outfit going to be? I love the way you push the envelope.
I love your inspiration with the peacock feathers and the soft feather vest. I think what works here is the delicate centering of the feathers on an unseen cap. Plus, the softness is repeated with the green feathered vest. Really amazing and now I see where you're "headed" with this.
The last one is a more stylized mohawk so I am getting more steampunk vibe than mohawk from it. That said, I don't think it has the same awesome vibe of the peacock headgear you linked to in your last post. That one looks over the top and sophisticated at the same time.
I'd do the original. It's just too punk-y to me to be cultural appropriation. Although, I like the idea of the really tall show girl feathers for you, like in the second kingdom pic.
