One better than the other? (Angie copycat alert :P)

I was a busy coat bee last month - ever since Angie posted her droolworthy Vibrant Flame coat! I guess I'm in the mood for some cheer too

Anyway, I got caught at Christmas with 7 (yes, seven!) Vibrant Flame coats in my closet (keeping in mind there's Metro or Lady/Thinsulate or not/regular or petite -- I'm surprised it's only 7 Now, my niece wants me to decide so she can pick next, plus I'd sure hate to miss my return window on them. . .

So, I think I have it narrowed down to these two. I have a medium weight tee under them both, so there's room for a sweater too. My large (and strong!) upper arms don't want to size down any further. . . but I'm open to alterations where really needed.

Sorry about the pic quality -- I took pics yesterday, and thought the blurry was batteries. Today with new batteries, but no sun, they are still blurry

Does one outshine the other? I know which one I'm leaning toward, but won't sway you yet!

I'm flattered:). Isn't the quality of that coat just superb?

At first glance I thought that this coat was too big. But then you mentioned that you couldn't go down a size because of the sleeve width. THEN you mentioned that you are only wearing a tee shirt as a layer!!! You have to wear the appropriate layers under the coat, Sara. So do make sure that side of things works

This coat looks a little big on the bust and torso area. Alterations are possible, but they will be expensive because this is a fully lined and tailored coat. It could end up costing as much as the coat. Your call

For the first time in my life I have a wool coat that fits properly with layers that I will wear under it. I can't tell you the difference this has made in terms of how I feel about wearing said coat! Really, it has shocked me. I never thought is was possible that I could go about my day not feeling all "bunchy."

It is also a mistake to go around swimming in a coat, though. Not only will it not look as Fab as if might, but it won't keep you as warm.

FWIW, I think the first one is better at the moment...and wow, it is a great coat!

None of the stores by me carry these coats, but shortly after your Blog, I ran across a returned Vibrant Flame Townhouse coat that I got to try on.

After that, there was no turning back

Thanks, Suz - you're so right about those layers. That's why we need more than one coat

Maybe tomorrow we'll have sunshine and I can put on a sweater and try again. . .

I think the Metro coat looks better. But I'm partial - I bought a metro coat in flame color (with thinsulate). I did have to go up a size because it was just too tight. I agree with Angie that the one you have on looks too big in the torso and back.

I agree with Angie that they both look a bit big in the top part. Do try them on with the right layers underneath: I always try them on with a jacket layered under - this is a real test. You may find that with a proper layer it fits better...
As for the style I like the second one better... but again agree with Angie that alterations to get the fit right will be quite expensive.
BTW, have you tried to size down or you just think the sleeves won't fit?

It's a little hard to tell because of the blur, but I think the Metro coat looks longer, right? And a tiny bit slimmer? I would go with that one. But I also think it would be worth trying the size down to make double sure it doesn't fit, because it does look a tad big on you. Great color on you though!

I love this coat, but agree that it looks big-- I'd love to see it with a jacket or sweater under.

I really really really wish I had a JCrew nearby-- they have such fabulous sales, but I can't do final sale because of fit issues.

Vibrant flame is like my favorite color ever.

They both have such pretty details and lovely lines. I honestly prefer number one for me but think the fit looks better in coat two.

Have to agree to try them on and really move about with the right layers on underneath...

Oh these are so pretty on you. I'm no help with coat fits....just thinking you could wear a puffer vest underneath as your "layer" to bulk up your torso and avoid tightening up the sleeves further. I'm kidding, of course, but if it works, why not?

Claire - I was actually thinking that a big ol' pair of falsies would be easier, more efficient, and less expensive than altering!! Plus, they could be used for all sorts of clothing where I have to buy for my bottom and don't fill out the top. . . JK. . . mostly. . .I'm another one who can't keep her shirts from slipping backwards. . .
