Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Interview wear

I have some interviews coming up Wed. & Thurs. this week and want to "preview" my chosen outfit to make sure it's acceptable. I'm interviewing for administrative/office roles, and I believe both companies have business casual dress codes.

I was thinking of wearing my black pencil skirt, black blazer, cobalt blue button-down shirt, and favorite printed scarf in an "Angie knot", cravat style. My mom urged me to wear my red patent heels (I wasn't sure if they were too "flashy" for an interview, though would definitely wear them for daily dress) and Oroblu nude micronet tights. What do you think?

Blazer open and closed, and close up of scarf

You're hired! :)

To my untrained eye you look incredible. I like that you added your own personal style to the black suit. I just bought an interview suit today and now I'm doubting my purchase because I LOVE your ensemble.

PERFECT. What's the job interview for?

Good luck!!!

Thank you both so much for helping me cross "interview outfit" from my checklist! I really appreciate the feedback & kind wishes.

Marianna, please don't doubt yourself! I'm sure your suit looks super, and maybe you can show it to us too!
Mine is just mis-matched pieces, and it's only a happy accident that the fabric is the same shade. I actually wish I had a different colored suit, like charcoal or dove grey, but black was just easier & I don't want to spend money on a new one right now.

Angie, it's for a program support/administrative role in a Human Resources team. I had a phone interview a couple weeks back and the company & job sounded perfect. Don't know how many other candidates are still in consideration, though.

Kari, good luck on your interviews! I hope something comes through. Your outfit is perfect!
I am also amazed at the goal system on the other thread and how organized you are.

Kari, the suit I bought actually is dove grey! I'll post pictures tomorrow. Way too lazy right now. :)

Thanks, Marianne! I hope so too, but at the very least it's excellent to get back in the interview groove again. It makes me feel like I'm actually accomplishing something by sending out so many applications.

MariannaCecile, that sounds wonderful! Can't wait to see it.

That's a knockout interview outfit; detailed but not fussy, classic and professional and yet still fresh. No worries there, their eyes will be on YOU, not distracted by any outfit faux-pas. Good luck!

Sending LOTS of good vibrations your way. If you like what you see when you get there, I pray you get the job :-)

Oh, and I prefer the jacket open too.

Kari ... I think your interview outfit is great ... the scarf and pumps add a unique flavor. And you look like you feel confident in it, which is so important when interviewing. I guarantee the interviewers will remember you and your fabulous style, and that is always a good thing! Best of luck!

Thank you SO much for all of the encouragement. Interview #1 went VERY well. I felt like I connected with the team and am confident that if I'm offered a job, it would be a great fit (and I think it would provide good opportunities long-term too, which is even better.) So we'll see. I know it's a super competitive market, but at the very least I had an excellent interview and gave it my best. It was also wonderful to feel confident in what I was wearing - comfortable clothes, favorite colors, and having the You Look Fab seal of approval - so I could truly focus on the interview instead.

#2 is coming up this afternoon, so I'll probably report back on Friday.
