Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Interesting coats seem to be a common hunt right now

I have noticed several threads and blog posts about people looking for "interesting" or "different" coats. I thought I was alone in this!

I am addicted to the moto stye right now, but I really want a new wool coat. So I have been trying to find a wool coat that isn't a pea coat style, or simple button front. I want something that someone might see and say, "Wow, never seen coat like that!" You know?

So which "different" coats are on YOUR list right now?

I have tried a couple different ones (and blogged about them), and after those failed, I have set my heart on this one, which I will be ordering on tuesday in the dark plum color. what do you think?

I really need a new coat - but I'd also like one that's a bit more 'interesting'. I need a trench coat, a wool coat (2, one shorter, and one longer) and a casual coat - and that's just for starters. Oh, and I want a leather jacket too :)

Here are some on my list:

Similar style also available at Nordstrom in a purple-ish colour:

Speaking of Nordstrom, this jumped out at me: (not practical, but I liked it!)

Another non-practical trench (I like the colour and the slight 'military' look to it):

It's like I'm experiencing coat rebellion or something - too many years of plain black wool coat and/or navy basic trench.

Hmm..if I saw a longer-length wool coat that was in an interesting colour, like a deep green, cobalt or something like that - I'd totally go for it.

Meanwhile, I think the Urban Outfitters 'moto-style' coat is really neat - looking forward to hearing how you like it once you get a chance to put it on.

Oh I really love the second one, the color is so rich and flattering!

I don't think the trench is non-practical at all. I think you could totally rock that with dressier outfits!

Interesting - I am the opposite right now. I'm looking for something pretty basic and plain. I wish I had the guts to go for something with a little more spice to it but I tend to keep it safe with coats bc I'm always worried I will get sick of them.

I had a 50 % off promo at Old Navy so I got both of these but one may be going back. I have a dressy cream colored lady day coat from J.Crew that I bought at end of season last year and it is a tad snug and also too nice for my daily MOTG lifestyle so I bought the ON cream coat as as my daily coat. (I like cream coats!)

I love the coats you guys have picked out however! I think they will be much more 'statement' pieces !

Agrace, both those coats are awesome! I really liked this one from ON but it was too tight across the shoulders, I was bummed.

They have great coats for great prices.

I can really see how the navy one would be especially practical!! Perfect MOTG!!

Thanks! I looked at the one you mentioned and love it as well- online, but not in person. They have a 30 % off promo all weekend for cardholders.

I think the UO plum coat will give you a lot of mileage in the color you have chosen. Slightly different, but not so different you'll be sick of it by end of winter. If you can, come back and let us know how you like it!

I probably want something that doesn't exist. I want a statement wool coat, in yellow or purple, or maybe black and white polka dots. I want it to have something unique and different about it, like big fun buttons or a big collar. Most of all, I want it to fit me. :o)

Hi LeeHovey! I mentioned the UO coat in a recent post:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....hese-coats

I know exactly what you mean about wanting a unique coat. I'm really struggling with finding colors I like. I don't want black/navy, cream/white or red so...there isn't much to choose from!

I would love to hear your opinion about the UO coat if you try it on! Better yet would be some photos :)

I loooove this gold one from Victoria's Secret, but I suspect the buttons would be painful when I am driving on my commute. But they're so cute! (The front is...well, the photo is unfortunate. But the shoulders are nice!

I am also in dire need of a good coat!

Does anyone have opinions about Soia and Kyo coats? I have been seriously thinking about this one:

Thanks!

This one is very unusual, and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, it'll probably only work for girls with super small busts, like myself : ttp://fredflare.com/customer/product.php?productid=5288&cat=366&bf=hs

Melissa that coat is awesome! I love the way the label buttons down. And the black piping! Right up my alley. Did you end up giving it a try?

Mocha, the ruffles on the coat you link are fab! I think it would look dowdy on me, but I would LOVE to see it on you!!

Tortoise, I ordered the OU coat in a Medium, and when I got it I decided it was just the tenniest toucvh too tight, which ruined the line of the coat. So I returned it and am waiting for the large to come in the mail. But the quality is awesome, well worth the money, and the plum color is even more gorgeous in person!!

LeeHovey--Glad to hear about the UO coat--love that asymmetrical zipper!--I saw it and liked it and thought about it before buying my empire waist coat.

Velvetychocolate--Have you seen this coat at Nordstrom's? http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....rchresults. I tried it in "blackberry," which is a saturated purple. If you need a tailored look, it's a fun color. It has a lining, which makes it good for cooler weather.

Melissa--The Soia & Kyo is terrif! Debated it so long that they sold out in my size, drat. They make the warmest stylish coats ever. Perfect strangers compliment me on my red wool Soia & Kyo EVERY TIME I wear it, which is daily in cold weather. Be prepared.

garmenta - that trench is in my 'wishlist'. I hesitate to order only because I seem to be in between sizes right now. I was trying on some trench coats recently, and realizing that the small is the one that fits best in the shoulders, arms and bust area, though sometimes it's a bit 'iffy' through my midsection - I think it'll all depend on the brand. I am somewhat unclear as to what my size is, having lost a bunch of weight. Most mediums seem to work, but I noticed in coats and trench coats - a lot of them are too big and boxy through my upper body. And the smalls are sometimes still too small.

In the meantime, the Gallery blackberry trench is definitely on my list. I love the colour, because it'll work fall through spring. Trying the 'pick up in store' option tells me my nearest store doesn't have it in stock. I'd love to know what others think of this trench - in particular, if it's flattering on a still-plump shape.

Just saw some BRIGHT yellow Tulle coats at TJ Maxx on Tuesday...

Tulle coats are often VERY cute, although I have yet to find one heavy enough to withstand our winters. But for fall/spring, absolutely! (especially in a bright like yellow)
