I have always been curious about this. For consistency, your inseam measurement should be PPL with very flat flats and bootcuts (since skinnies don't make it to the ground, straight legs usually scrunch, and wide legs are usually worn with a heel.

My height is 62" and my inseam is 30.5.

I'm curious to see how much of a person's total height is taken up from floor to crotch level, and how much variation there is. My inseam is just about half my total height! This is why I wrote my height in inches rather than feet and inches. Just makes it easier to do a quick calculation. For reference, 5' is 60 inches.

60 inches tall and inseam - without shoes, measured crotch to floor - is 28 inches. But that's not what I wear in pants. My bootcut jeans to be worn with flats are 30 inches. My skinnies and straight legs are MUCH longer - I like a lot of scrunch!

... incidentally my brother is 69 inches tall with 28 inch inseam... as I said, the nickname "stub" runs in the family....

Interesting Shiny. I take pretty much the same inseam in flats or barefoot. Yours differs by a whole 2"! That's strange. Any guesses as to why?

Good point about the scrunch. I should nix straight legs then I guess.

Shiny, my dad's jeans (the ones I picked) arrived yesterday. They are 30" and too long for him!

Ah ha! Because I measured my straight legs not the bootcuts!! Duh.

Bootcuts - 28.5 inches
Straight legs - 30 inches
Skinnies (just for fun) - 32 inches.

Hm, another short person answer:
Height: 5'3" (63")
Inseam (crotch to floor): 29.3" or so

I measured some of my pants for fun:
Too-short bootcuts: 28.5" (I think they shrank on me after time!)
About right bootcuts: 29"
A little long for flats bootcuts: 29.75"
Skinnies: 30"

I'm 5ft 7in and usually buy 31inch (long) leg trousers to wear with heels i struggle iwth trousers for flats cause the 29inch (medium) is too short for flats! x

I'm 5'10" (70 inches) and 33 inches is a perfect inseam for me. I think my legs are sort of short for my height?

I'm 66" tall and my leg length is 32" and I generally buy 33" inseam pants for flats so they skim the floor. I do a 34" to 35" inseam for my heeled shoes...all my heels are 2" or 2-1/2" high.

Hah! Marlene and I are virtually the same:

66 inches tall. 32 inches for trousers with flats (skinnies are longer for extra scrunching). 34 inch inseam for heels which are below three inches.

Interesting results so far. I'm actually not sure what to conclude from them. I guess it confirms that I have long legs for my height since my petite comrades seem to all be about an inch or more shorter than me, and some of you who are much taller than me wear my inseam with heels! That is wild. I guess height is not necessarily an indication of inseam then.

67'' (although Angie says it's more), about 33.5 for flat flats. I have a pretty hard time with pants length, because tall sizes don't fit me quite right. Premium jeans were a godsend.

Still working on the PPL thing, but recently realized that my 32" inseam jeans were perfect for flats - and I'm 65" tall.

I'm 65 inches (5 foot 5) and my inseam for flats is about 29 1/2- 30. My legs are rather short for my height.

This is an interesting thread. I'm sitting in a hotel room on vacation and can't measure, but I'm 64" (or shorter if I've shrunk in the past few years) but the shortest inseam I can wear with flats is 33". A tall size is my best bet for any heel. On top I take petite sizes.

Wow Joy, you must have some looooong gams! I think you're the only one among us who has legs that are longer than half your height!

It seems like those of us whose inseam is half our overall height are long-legged.
Those who have an inseam that is slightly less than half, by an inch or two, are average.
And those whose inseam is greater than 2 inches shorter than half their height have shorter legs.

I did this very sloppily so I might be wrong. Good thing I'm not a scientist

Okay going by your theory Maya

I'm 5ft 8" and have an inseam of 32" so I guess I may have short legs by the standards of this latest experiment. I also have a short waist so I'm now wondering where all of my height is hiding. Very strange I must investigate this further.

I'd say you're average R&J. Half of 68 is 34, and you're 2" below that. I said GREATER than 2"

I'm 65" tall and my inseam for bootcut jeans with flats is 30.5".

I am pretty sure I have short legs relative to my dress size, at least. Case in point: I had to take about 3" off my Club Monaco microchecks just to wear them with HEELS. I would have had to take a lot more off to wear them with flats. Some others who ordered the trousers didn't have to hem them at all. I suspect that they may have had proportionally longer legs in their larger sizes, though.

I'm 64 inches tall and inseam is 29inches. I have short legs. No doubt about it. A couple of pairs of jeans I have bought in the last year have however, fitted without hemming because they came in different lengths.

I'm 63" inches with a measured inseam of 29". I made my husband measure twice, because I always feel like hemming to 29" is too short for flats for me. I usually prefer 30-31" although 31" definitely gives me a little pool/scrunch for any type of pant. I guess I'm a short legger too.
