Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Input on this dress?

I bought this Esprit dress hoping it would work both by itself and over skinnies, but I think it's too short to be worn on its own. I'll probably return it but I just wanted to check if I am headed in the right direction. What do you think? Please ignore the shoes.

I also took a picture with a layer underneath and YLF boots:

Thanks!

I like it with the skinnies and flats alot. It fits you great.
I am undecided if the shirt under it is just to much.
I also don't know about the boots with jeans and a dress this length. That one is for a more trained eye than mine.

It is a little short, but it kind of reminds me of that cobalt dress Angie once blogged about:

It looks super with jeans and I think you could also try it with leggings and clams.

Even if you can't wear it on its own, it might be worth keeping because it looks great on you.

I'm not sure how I like the shirt layered under it though. Something about the neckline of the dress doesn't work for me. It doesn't seem scooped enough. Maybe a long sleeve shirt without a collar. Love it with skinnies and boots though.

Thanks San and Maya, I see what you mean about the shirt. Perhaps I could try it with a l/s tee. I wanted to see what it would look like layered. It is pretty short, esp. when I sit down, but I haven't thought about leggings, I'll give them a shot.
I wanted to experiment with working this style of dress into my daily wardrobe, and it was pretty cheap, so it would be low risk.

I really like these boots and I think they will be very versatile - I hope everyone else who ordered them shares my feelings :). I am still trying to decide between this color and the grey.

Hello fellow high-necked sheath twin!

This frock is getting a KILLER rating from me all round! You've got the gams, girlfriend. I guess my above the knee dresses are just a little longer:

It’s perfect over jeans and will be perfect with leggings, Marianne. I don’t mind it so short on a super hot day. LOVE the new boots! Aren’t they comfy like slippers? I like the shirt layered underneath the frock too. Wooohooo! You look so Euro.

I don't think it's unreasonable short, esp. since you have those gorgeous skinny legs.

But if you aren't confortable then it won't look good! I do like it with the skinnies and boots... truth be told I am not entirely on board with the look in general, though you are selling me on it here. :)

The more you layered up the dress, the more I liked it! It seems really versatile. You wear a sheath soooooo well!

I don't think it is too short at all. I think it looks great. Perhaps you should try the layered look with opaque tights and tall boots? I think it is a little too much with jeans but love the layered look with tights. Also, don't forget about your short sleeve and 3/4 length shirts in soft, non-woven fabrics . My favorite way to layer this way is with a 3/4 sleeve striped tee-shirt under the structured black sheath. Dresses up the tee, dresses down the dress.

Thank you for the feedback and for layering suggestions! I guess if it gets YLF approval, I'll keep it, even though I may not wear it on its own and just treat it as a tunic. The length is well above the knee, and I just don't feel like it's age-appropriate without leg coverage, but I will try tights and leggings. I do like the layering possibilities with it! I would love to get a better quality sheath at some point... when my lifestyle cooperates. :)

Angie, the boots are VERY comfy. Thank you so much for the recommendation!

Great! I *knew* you'd love the boots. I have mine too. Perfect MOTG. Very fab :0)

What's the fabric of the sheath, Marianne?

Posted 3 months ago

Angie, it's polyester/rayon blend and looks sort of like twill - which is why I brought up the quality. I could probably do better in that aspect, but not sure where to look, esp. for something that is casual enough. It's fall weight and it's lined, too.

Posted 3 months ago

Got it! I was hoping it was an Autumn weight. That way, you’ll have more use for it.

You should try those new boots and hose with the frock next. I had naf in that look last week and she looked amazing.

I loove the dress on you Marianne! While it looks great layered, I think you can pull it on it's own too with your gorgeous legs. The boots are fab too.

Thank you, Tanya!
Ooh I bet Naf looked great! I guess I should look into microfishnets :) Angie, would a traditional trench coat work with these boots and hose? Or is it better with a jacket or another short layer? That's the confusing part about these boots for me.

Posted 3 months ago

Naf was actually wearing semi - opaques! You could do that too – with a trench FOR SURE. It’s me that would wear the fishnets (and I just got lace patterned fishnets that I’m very excited about!)

Biker jacket will also work. Ahem. Do you have a biker jacket yet my dear?

Marianne - I have nothing new to add but when I looked at your pictures I went "Zow - now that's an outfit that's suited to show up your great body!" And the style is wonderful too.

Posted 3 months ago

Biker jacket, ahem... I only have a white cotton one. I haven't looked into them very much in spite of all the buzz on YLF. Angie, maybe you could wear your microfishnets to the next YLF event, I would love to see them in action! :) Please?
Sihaya, thank you, you're making me blush!

For you Marianne, of course :0)

Your hunt for the perfect biker jacket has just begun!

Posted 3 months ago

Thanks Angie! :) I don't believe I've seen them on anyone IRL. Actually I don't see many people wearing hose around here in general.
Hmm that hunt will be very long and full of struggle :)

Wow Mariaane, I love this dress! It is so vesratile too!! I think it would look good with a coloured LS tee underneath too. Please do post more pics!!!

Posted 3 months ago

Meant to comment earlier, love the dress especially over jeans! I think the cognac boots are great on you. Does the grey work better with your colors?

Posted 3 months ago

Just wanted to say you look great. I would sport the dress without hose if I had your legs (and I'm your age). Just be careful bending over to gather the little ones :)

Have you thought about adding a long necklace with the last look (shirt under the sheath)? That might add a little interest. Definitely a keeper for you!!

Posted 3 months ago

Thank you, ladies. Dani, I like the idea of a necklace, or maybe even a scarf to add something vertical.
GG, I am still undecided on the boots. I wear a lot of grey, black, white and blue. Grey boots fall right into the palette, but brown ones look more interesting... I am just not sure if they would work with cobalt blue, for example. Or with my dark green trench - would it be too much of a hunting look? I will have to start a new thread on that. :)
